AMD64 platform is getting pretty popular from what I can see as many users are already running GNU/Linux on it. It is said that 64bit architecture is faster and that programs optimized for it should also be faster, but is the difference really visible in reality?
Does it pay off switching to a 64bit architecture today as opposed to sticking with the good old 32bit?

What do you think?

Thanks

Sadly cant afford any 64bit

Sadly cant afford any 64bit processors so cant comment.

How ever I did use the iMac 64bit ppc processors, that is very nice. I would totally say it is worth it then. It is so fast its sexy.

I use amd64 but cannot

I use amd64 but cannot comment on any speed difference as I have thus far avoided using x86 gnu/linux on the machine
