You may have noticed I've put some text ads on the bottom of all topics and in a block on homepage.

I am attempting to, if succesful, use those to pay for the site. It is hard to have any site without some advertising except if you have a good job or have other means of getting payed such as sponsors. Therefore I think some ads are inevitable.

However, I don't intend nor should I be allowed to put too much of them or put them in a way that would annoy anyone too much.

If you think I ever cross the line feel free to point it out to me and I'll fix it. Feedback in this regard is appreciated.

I hope what is there now isn't too intrusive. Smiling

Thanks

ahhhhhhh! Get them right off!
Only kidding. They dont look at all annoying.
I tend to get used to things like that.
Good to see the site is generating enough interest. Eye

Hehe.. Laughing out loud

Well these are just sort of contextual pay-per-click network ads that try to match the topic. The "real" advertisers may or may not purchase something directly on nuxified.org per my pricing (by clicking on the "your ad here" link), which is the best deal. I hope someone may get interested in buying that.

I am only a bit annoyed by the fact it advertises this "Globe7" thing which is proprietary software (and thus against our advertising policy). I've tried to avoid that with keywords, but still can't get rid of it. And this service doesn't offer the ability to block some sites. Well, I might ask them personally then...

Cheers

The only sad thing is, I don't need to increase my computer speed with a Windows-based optimize scan, and I don't have any student loans that I need to reduce, and I never had any inkjet cartridges. Too bad it didn't say something like:

* Get your next Linux magazine subscription, now reduced 50%!
* New, super-LED lamps use 2W and put out 100W incandescent power!
* New, simple, PostgreSQL IDE
* New, simple, PHP IDE
* Check out this programmer keyboard designed by programmers, and with the \ key in the right place!
* New Book, "Successful FLOSS Business Models". We teach you how to get a successful FLOSS business off the ground in the USA with a variety of proven business models.
* Bookset: Squid, Apache 2, Postfix, Sendmail, and Hylafax configuration manuals.
* New Book, "The Breakup of Microsoft: How Microsoft will likely self-destruct and breakup in this decade".
* New Book, "GPL 2 - A Complete Legal and Technical Review"

Heh, that gives me some ideas for potential advertisers.

linuxcd.org ... oh wait, magazine, well I'll mention this one anyway

pckeyboard.com
clickykeyboards.com ( <--- recommended. pre-lexmark model M keyboards simply are a little bit better, even if they're second-hand)

It displays all those ads? Heh that seems worse than I thought. Those are just network ads with automated targeting and that kind of targeting (which is mostly keyword based) isn't smart enough to know this site isn't just about any software, anything that is free and anything that has to do with computers. It seems that if we'd want to fend off those kinds of advertising you describe we practically shouldn't display any network ads whatsoever.

But unfortunately we aren't yet that popular to have enough advertisers advertising things of real interest to replace these ads with.

You're right on! If any potential advertiser reads this that offers anything similar or thinks he could offer something like that, there's a hint!

I'll see if I am able to get in contact directly with the adbrite marketplace advertisers. There are some GNU/Linux related sites there I've seen so I could be able to get a deal with some of them..

I'll see if these are available in adbrite. If not.. hm, maybe I'll be bold enough to contact them directly, but as I said we're still too small to be of much interest to them, especially oreilly. They advertise on big sites only.

I was actually searching for oreilly affiliate program similar to the one of amazon.com and couldn't find it. But I think they should really offer something like that.

Someone would do better to create a product here. I see a product niche, definitely.

How do you mean create a product, someone among us here on Nuxified.org?

Btw, if these ads don't perform (and for now they do poorly) I'll just remove the network ads and wait for only pre-approved purchased ads. I hope I wont have to wait forever for that. Laughing

Well I'm supposed to make sure I don't!

Create a product? Anyone. Not nuxified.org in particular.

I have removed the advertising block on homepage and the network ads are also being removed from below topics leaving only "Your Ad Here" link for manual advertising purchasing for anyone interested.

Network ads just aren't performing well enough to justify themselves, especially with those annoying proprietary software ads like Globe7.

We need clean advertisers badly, ones who can pay using moneybookers or AdBrite to advertise something of interest to Nuxified.org visitors (that isn't proprietary software of course).

I'
