Libervis IRC channel

Wed, 2008-11-12 01:12

Even when Libervis.com is rather quiet, our chatroom is pretty lively and active often with interesting discussions about freedom and related issues. All of us who participate are technology enthusiasts, mostly users of GNU/Linux operating system, but not discriminatory towards anyone else.

I would like to invite anyone who may be stumbling on this site to join us. Who knows, it may be one of the better things you've done because once you get to know us you might actually want to stick around.

So, here is where you can find us:

Machinima

Wed, 2008-11-12 00:57

One of the new things I became interested in lately are machinima, or movies made within video games. I am in fact building a site that is to allow linking, voting and reviewing machinima movies, recognizing it as a growing phenomenon and an interesting new (at least from the perspective of the mainstream) media of cultural expression.

Technology vs. the economic crisis

Thu, 2008-10-09 11:36

This is something I continue to be genuinely interested in. The credit fiasco that happened in USA and infected the rest of the world, bringing down some of the most powerful and oldest banks in US and some big banks in Europe too, regardless and perhaps even partly because of the just passed bail out in US and other bail outs in Europe, is according to many leading the world towards a global deep recession which some compare even to the Great Depression that started in 1929.

Against net neutrality

Thu, 2008-09-04 15:03

Considering that I am a voluntaryist (or for the newbies to the term; a left libertarian, or anarcho-capitalist) I am by default against any and all legislation. Still it's good to offer arguments behind why is a particular legislation bad and I've found an article which explains why would the net neutrality regulation be bad:

The Great Firewall of Net Neutrality.

Thoughts on Olympics in China?

Sat, 2008-08-09 18:51

I suppose you might be one of the 4 billion people who have supposedly watched the opening ceremony of Olympics in Bejing so there's a good chance there's no need for me to introduce you to what it is.

Does technology really matter?

Sat, 2008-08-09 14:29

I still define liberty as a state of being in which you're free to do "whatever floats your boat as long as it doesn't sink mine". From my perspective this reflects non-aggression or non-coercion and obviously requires tolerance. It is predicated on the belief that even while you believe others to be wrong about their beliefs and their acts to be evil, you would not interfere by force if they don't initiate force on you or anyone else.

Service Nation?

Tue, 2008-08-05 04:52

Anyone heard of a project called Service Nation?

Apparently they're trying to compell everyone in United States to do public service on September 27th 2008, in a nutshell. They, of course, speak of stuff like unity, being the change and all the other warm and fuzzy things. As it usually happens this, in fact quite heinous project, is being clothed into all of the good buzz words and slogans they can think of.

V for Vendetta

Sat, 2008-08-02 16:19

Has anyone here watched this movie called "V for Vendetta"? What did you think of it?

I did recently and it's gotta be one of the best movies I've ever watched. I might have not said something like some months ago, but from where I stand today the movie is a perfect fit, might even call it positively life changing and incredibly inspiring.
