Should anonamous users really have 'PM' in their bar on the right?
Also, if they are allowed to post [bad idea IMO], why cant they vote on the front page articles?

They usually can't post. It is only enabled temporarily sometimes when we have an article on big site like digg.com so that we can get some comments we otherwise wouldn't get if we required registration. After traffic subsides anonymous posting is disabled again, as it was now. Smiling

As for the PM link, yes that should probably be hidden for them. It was just added to make it easier for registered members to find the PM area. I'll see about hiding that for anonymous.

IMHO, for a forum which is still in its infancy, it's good idea to allow all users to post (even the unregistered ones). It's probably possible to apply a good spam engine for drupal to reject the spam posts (which usually are 50% of all posts if not more). I use this option on PolishLinux.org and its Polish clone (both powered by Wordpress) and it really increases the number of comments to the articles. Some users register after a few anonymous comments too, and it's likely they would not do so if they weren't allowed to post comments as guests.

I have checked for the Akismet module for Drupal and there seem to be some options I may try out. So we might yet have anonymous postings allowed.

Thanks for good suggestions.

I've installed the akismet spam catcher and enabled anonymous posting again! Smiling

Now that anon posting is on I have to answer this. The reason is simple. If all anonymous users would be able to vote than the rating system is open to abuse as one anonymous visitor could vote multiple times. For example he could bury the post with negative rating.

So while there are less votes by only registered members, at least we're sure they're genuine votes. Smiling
