Tremulous is probably the

Tremulous is probably the biggest among Freedomware Gamefest 2007 tournaments. It is a rather unique kind of a Free first person shooter (FPS) as the game involves a war between two races, humans and an alien race whose name still remains unknown. The alien race is quite different from humans, and reminds quite a bit of aliens you could see in Alien vs. Predator movies and games.

In Tremulous a player can choose to play either of the two. The experience of both is quite different and requires whole new skill sets. Aliens attack mostly with their paws, as daggers or poaching, but they do have lethal weapons to throw at you too.

Humans, on the other hand, are much less organic. They equip themselves with a horde of guns, light and heavy armour, turrets which can even throw lightning bolts at the approaching enemy.

Tremulous requires deep team play and an amount of strategic thinking. We have enlisted a number of experienced clans and are forming a few new teams to participate in the Tremulous Tournament as part of Freedomware Gamefest 2007.

One of the clan readers, CY, had this to say about the game when asked why does he love to play it:

"Well, it's free, it's open source, it's innovative, plays well, looks good, downloads in 5 minutes and takes no space on my computer.
I play mostly with my clan, against another team of players. So we all know each other, and we communicate through a vocal server, the games are much more organized and therefore much more interesting. This is what the Game Fest is preparing for you and if you've never tried Tremulous, or if you've never tried playing clan matches, here's a chance to rapidly dig into the game and discover many pleasant aspects involving teamplay and strategy."

With less than a day left before the registrations deadline, time is ripe for you to come in!

Thank you

More credit where credit is due

First, thanks Danijel, for providing this interview. It was a pleasure to participate.

Let me add this: After reading this interview over again, I didn't give enough credit to Landy DeField (land0) and the Tux Project for their contribution to the formation of this project, because most of the discussion around what is now Lindependence 2008 came from hashing out many ideas, and logistical snags, in the Tux Project last fall. So I'd like to correct that, and to apologize to Landy and the others who participated in the discussions in that realm for not giving them more credit in this interview. They deserve more credit, and we're certainly looking forward to REVELinux's participation.

Nuxified.org has always supported Ubuntu CE - it's free software, we support all free software, and we never stated anywhere we don't support free software with a religious aspect to it.

I don't see why we should stop supporting Ubuntu CE, but if you know a good reason then I'm all ears.

Please note that everything you posted about this topic so far looks a lot like a troll shouting "religion is evil". It doesn't surprise me people say "explain or STFU".

I didn't ask/tell you to STFU in general, I just want you to stop talking and start saying something. I think you would make an excellent politician, you talk a lot without actually saying something. And since reasoning didn't help I thought maybe a few harsher words might finally make you to get to the point.
It was in no way meant to actually attack you, I am sure you have your reasons for insisting so much on this point, it is just not clear what these are. And obviously I am not the only one feeling like this.

I don't see a general problem with discussing this I just want to know your arguments, because how can we support or argue against them when we don't know what is the actual problem. It's pretty much like people stating "that program doesn't work" or things like that.

So please tell us what made you open up this topic so that we can finally start discussing about it, otherwise just forget about it (which is what I actually meant with STFU) and move on to one of the other discussions that are interesting to read and/or worth joining.

Not any more than we have to give support for any other distribution out there. If you choose not to help people asking questions related to Ubuntu CE that's your choice. Nobody actually has to do anything. It's all voluntary.

Ubuntu CE is therefore not getting ANY special treatment here, nor any further treatment than it already did before, and same stands for all other distros.

So whether it is Ubuntu CE, Ubuntu Satanic Edition if you will, Ubuntu Muslim Edition or whatever else, as long as it's comprised of Free Software people will be welcome to ask questions about it here. And none are going to get any extra promotion than any other.. Now how popular will one be is totally dependent on how many users ask questions about it. So far, Ubuntu has been most popular. I don't even think that many Ubuntu CE users actually mention it's a CE because, I believe, the differences are not that crucial in technical terms. It's still 99% same software.

We support free

We support free software.
Ubuntu CE is a collection of free software.
We can and will attempt to help the users of any one piece of software included in Ubuntu CE, no matter how the user got it (Ubuntu CE or not, etc) or why they use it (religious reasons ?)

To me, Ubuntu CE is just another distribution that I don't use. When somebody wants help from me on free software, I don't give a damn whether they use Ubuntu Christian Edition, Dzongkha Linux or Fedora 8.
If they start yelling that "Christian Ubuntu is the only true Linux, Amen" or something like that, they're probably morons and I'll tell them that they're talking crap.

They have the freedom to chose their religion and follow it blindly. They have the freedom to use whatever software they want. We respect that freedom, no matter whether we agree with their choices.

I don't really understand your problem, ovelarsen. We're not starting to use Ubuntu CE, we're not starting to fight for wider adoption of Ubuntu CE. We're just continuing to support the freedom of our members in this and other matters.

Also, reptiler did not tell you to STFU. He asked you, albeit not very politely (though I cannot criticize his choice of tone), to explain what your problem is (as I have done in another form) or to stop ranting on for yourself to the benefit of no one.

I am sure that the partnership in a friendly relationship with links to and fro, not involving any contract. Even if libervisco were employed by C3PC.com, that wouldn't harm the community. Nobody can force us users to answer questions. We answer what we want, because we want to. If you chose categorically ignore all questions by Ubuntu CE users, you may of course do that. (That wouldn't be very polite, of course)

Please elaborate.

And where exactly is the problem about this? Are you afraid somebody will say "God bless you" instead of simply "Thank you" when you answer a question about a program like Gimp or OpenOffice, which are about as christian as the sand on the beach...
Or is it that maybe somebody might have problems using KBibletime?

Or maybe you just feel repressed because there's no Ubuntu Hindu Edition/Buddhism Edition/Fishermens Edition/...?

Whatever might be your actual problem, I think nobody here gets what the hell it is.

So I strongly suggest that you either finally tell us what your problem with the Christian Edition of Ubuntu is or just STFU about it...

Maybe the best way to make clear Ubuntu CE is just another option is to also offer to preinstall Ubuntu SE.

ovelarsen, if you truly are offended by Ubuntu CE, and you have legitimate reasons, other than I'm selling Ubuntu CE and I have a logo, then please let me know and we can discuss correcting the issues that are offensive. If you're just offended by Christianity in general, then I'm sorry. The point of the partnership between the sites, and the company, is not to force Ubuntu CE upon you and convert you. It's to provide Linux preloaded on quality hardware.
