It's less complicated than you think actually - I mean - you're trying too hard. Just don't think of tagging as primary, but rather secondary way of navigating.

Still I put this poll under a "tournament" tag.

Cheers

forum navigation

I'm having a little trouble navigating this forum, I have to use the super-duper stylish tags, right? you should add 'tournament' to this one probably.

At the top of the page there's a list of links (Forums, Blogs ... Polls). The Forums link will give you a list of forums by topic, but the item we're currently commenting on is listed under Polls instead of Forums. The tags are an additional way of navigating.

Usually it's easiest to click the "Show what's new" link at the top of the page, that will show you everything sorted by time, no matter if it's an article, poll, blog item or forum post.

I hope this helps.

Thank you for voting qubodup!

Also I'm really happy to see the confirmation of Tremulous being 100% Free. That game is just awesome. It's not just another shot 'em up FPS but a real strategy game at that too.

An article about this contest was written at http://libregamewiki.cyanox.nl/Free_Software_Gaming_Tournament_by_Cluenet_and_Nuxified so i went here, registered and voted for 100% Free.

PS!! Tremulous is now category 1 see http://svn.icculus.org/tremulous/trunk/COPYING?rev=775&view=markup

If the data is

If the data is non-commercial and it's allowed to be redistributed at will for non-commercial uses, then I see nothing wrong with it.

I voted for that.

Important!!

I took the liberty to remove the third option as well because it is sugggesting non-free software (that's game engine) which we in any case wouldn't be doing on a Free Software support site. I put the one vote that was for the third option to be for the second one.

So to make it perfectly clear, the first option is for games that are completely Free Software and its data is a Free Work, shareable, modifiable and usable both commercially and non-commercially.

Second option is for games that have a Free Software engine BUT the data it uses is restricted to at non-commercial sharing only.

This excludes all completely proprietary games and all games which use data that can't even be legally shared at all.

I think the second option covers 99% (or more) of the cases you describe.

What about more than just free or nonfree (as in freedom)

There should be an option for any games with free engines, regardless of the freeness of the data - as opposed to it saying ONLY games with free engines and games with 'free for non-commercial' - which I supposed means nonfree data?

My opinion is that we should be able to play any game with a free engine and data that is free of charge.

To clarify: categories

To clarify: categories higher up are more exclusive; all games category I are category II etc.

examples:

Nexuiz, OpenArena, BZFlag, Netpanzer, Armagetron Advanced, and all other games in Debian main or one of Ubuntu's main, universe fall into category I

<strike>Tremulous</strike>, Sauerbraten, Warsow and other games in ubuntu multiverse, or split between Debian contrib/non-free are category II (By most interpretations of its media license, tremulous is now category I)

<strike>category III includes semi-free works such ass Ruud van Gaal's Racer</strike>

<strike>category IV includes Couter Strike</strike>

Please remember that this site is about free software.

Maybe mentioning cube

Maybe mentioning cube wasn't the best idea then, but then again everyone can vote so.. As for tremulous I've read about its data license recently and it seems to be all under Creative Commons Attribution ShareAlike which is actually a free license. I know that there was word of it being under non-commercial CC before, but it's possible they changed it now.

My favorites would definitely come down to Nexuiz and OpenArena, but due to it being slightly speedier and the best and easiest to use recreation of Q3A (with even some improvements, and total dedication to all Free Software) I think OpenArena wins for now, for me.

I haven't tried any yet.
I wanted to have a look at Nexuiz a while ago, but as far as I remember there was some problem. Don't remember if it was the game or my system though.
I also want to have a look into OpenArena, since I always enjoyed playing Q3 (the Linux-version of course).

Since you mention Cube, how about it's successor Sauerbraten?
Although it's, like Cube, not totally free, I'd just like to mention it since Cube is in the list.
