This story implies the possibility that Blake Ross (founder of Firefox) and the company may be building a Firefox Operating System, most likely based on GNU/Linux I assume.

This is the first time I am hearing such a rumor. The thought of that never actually crossed my mind and now I'm wondering what could the Firefox Operating System be exactly and more importantly in what way would it be different and special from the other existing GNU/Linux distros and operating systems. Maybe some sort of special integration with Firefox that never existed before?

What do you think?

Maybe something that's

Maybe something that's specifically built to do web browsing and E-mail, and all of the media stuffs that go along with it. While many distributions do accomplish this out of the box, just having the Firefox name on it could give it some credibility and appeal with the masses that are otherwise unfamiliar with Linux.

True enough. Alot of even

True enough. Alot of even Windows users use Firefox nowadays so a GNU/Linux based OS named "Firefox" might get some attention even from those who otherwise wouldn't pay attention..

I imagine a default homepage of Firefox would link to a site of the Firefox OS so that's quite a boost.

This could really be interesting.

They could easily pull off a Live CD just made for web browsing. While it wouldn't help much with bookmarks and such (unless they used that syncing Google extension, or something of the like), they could advertise it a browser OS that is completely protected against virus, adware, spyware, malware, and such.

Hmm, interesting - branding

Hmm, interesting - branding is inportant and like any potential Google OS, a FireFox OS should do well because of the brand.

As has been mentioned above it'd most likly aimed at Web use. To think of it all many people do on a computer is use it to browse the web, read some email, and maybe write the odd letter - this could be the OS and the brand for them.

Would Google and Firefox be

Would Google and Firefox be working together on something like this? Firefox on top of a Linux live CD, with Google extensions could be quite an offering for those yet unfamiliar with Linux. And the power of both brands could generate a buzz with them.

But I don't see any preexisting Linux users switching anytime soon.
