Gentoo 2006.0 with an installer!!

Oh yeah, the thing we've been waiting for. Gentoo now has an installer. Just look at the shots!
So, has anyone gave it a try yet? I've generally had bad experiences with gentoo so far. Last time I tried I used a kororaa gentoo installer (text based) and still couldn't boot it. I concluded it just doesn't like machine.
But I might give this a go though. Maybe I get lucky.

The installer looks pretty tidy, though I think it takes the fun out of a Gentoo install.
I'll give it a go if I either bork up this install, or get another computer. Though for remote installs I'll still read the handbook, and install via ssh.

Yeah, but I think there should be a way to omit the installer or download an installer-less version, right?

Yes, you'd just open up a terminal and do it the old way, and if you don't want to use the Gentoo live CD you could use another such as knopix or slax
Tried it, didn't like it.
The non-bloated live CD is called the minimal one.
Doing it the old way was the beauty of Gentoo, this is just RR4 linux now...

Oh what's the big deal? Why the sad face? They added a feature that some people may actually like lowering the entry level and making it possible for people to try out the most complete source based distro for people that otherwise wouldn't.
I'd say it's good news on all counts. And you don't loose the option of installing it the "old" way. The console is there, handbook is up, you have a minimal installerless CD for download, what else do you need?
If you don't like it when things are automated, why don't you use LFS? Or maybe just pen and paper... wait, make that charcoal, deer blood and cave walls!
I can understand your feelings. Now all the n00bs can install gentoo too, making it less l33t. Oh well.
not that n00bs can install it, but they wont be able to keep it maintained

In that case they'll just run away from it eventually. I know though they'll start coming in to forums and IRC channels, but that doesn't have to be that much of a problem. We can handle it, right?
Some of them will learn, others will leave.
