Hey all!

I'm Josh King, for the moment the newest member of Nuxified. I came across the site when Danijel emailed me at DebCentral to discuss a link swap, which I was more than happy to do. Anyway, I server as the Lead Admin over there; stop by sometime after visiting Nuxified, especially if you're a Debian or Debian derivative user.

I've been a Linux user for about 7 years now, and work as a professional Systems Admin for about 6 years. I've worked with many different operating systems, but absolutely fell in Love with the Debian Way about 5 years ago. Since then, I've tried my best to support and give back to the Free Software world by contributing some code to a few projects, filing bug reports, etc. and (my favorite) building websites and friendships with other users and developers.

My biggest hope is that our community at DebCentral, and the Nuxified/Libveris communities will grow in friendship and cooperation. I'm always on the lookout for ideas on how the Free software communities can come together and work as a team. If you have ideas for joint projects or other such thigns, please don't hesitate to contact me on here or over at DebCentral.

So, thanks for having me! I look forward to getting to know all of you!

Hello and welcome! I'm glad to have you.

Cooperation always sounds like an excellent idea and if there is any chance at any point we could do something together I would be all for it.

Ideas from the community are also welcome.

Thanks
Daniel

I'm open for any ideas for joint projects as well. Cooperation is the cornerstone of Free software, so I think it is always a Good Thing!

Thanks again, and I hope we can come up with some joint ideas for DebCentral and Nuxified to work together!

I'm going to poll our team too to see if anyone has some ideas.

Great. maybe we should do the same here? Well.. actually, if anyone has any ideas feel free to post them up. I might open a separate thread in "questions and suggestions" for that, if anyone thinks it's a good idea. Smiling

Thanks

How about if DebCentral was added to the libervis network?

That would rock

Well, if not network directly then Free Culture Alliance which is to be considered part of Libervis Network. As part of the alliance site is not a direct member, but indirect as an ally.

Being part of an alliance requires nothing but putting a Free Culture button linking to alliance.libervis.com which will list other allies and information for them to be able to communicate and cooperate, which is the goal of the alliance.

This is still in planning stages though, buttons and the alliance site are yet to be created.

Can you maybe explain the difference to me? I know this is wandering way OT, but I'm just a noob around here anyway Laughing What are the differences, and focuses of each?

While I see DebCentral shares many of your ideals, we also deal with many non-free distros, support posts, etc.. We've been attempting to build a cooperative environment between Debian and Debian derivative sites (mainly with Debian-News.net, Debian-Administration.org, and Ubuntux.org as of right now), and have made some great improvements to the overall situation.

I'm sure if some brilliant person can come up with the right ideas, we could join all of our assets behind one joint project. Maybe even world domination is possible?!?

ok, maybe not that.. but we could definitely do some good. If you could point me to a more appropriate forum to discuss this, maybe we should continue it there?

What spaces? Shock

Ah well.. all links work for me..

Anyway.. a_thing gave you the right link. That's where I explain the idea, at least in sense of including new sites to libervis network while infact not adding them to the network directly or assuming absolutely any control over it.

That said, this alliance is just that. There would really be no strings attached to it. You place a small button at your site and get listed along with your info on a central location at alliance site where other alliance sites would be listed as well. Since our general area of operation would all be within the free culture, it could become a nice hub for cooperation.

There would be some rules for compliance according to which we can see if a site is fit to ally or not. However the basic point is this: if a site does something that in some way contributes the development of Free Culture, it is a good candidate for being listed and associated as an allie.

That basically includes all Free Software/Open Source related sites as well as alot of Free Culture/Creative Commons sites and even blogs.

Being part of the alliance basically comes down to two things:

- The button on every allied site basically says "we are supporters of Free Culture" to the visitor. It's like a badge that proclaims that your site is in association with Free Culture on the web.

- Every allied site is listed in a central locations with links, descriptions and other information enabling both visitors and other allies to easily locate Free Culture supporters on the web for any purpose, which may very well be to engage in some kind of cooperation.

And I don't even have to mention that allied sites can keep close touch with libervis communities and each other in this way. It's a way to encourage greater interconnectivity and unitedness among all the supporters of Free Culture, even if they're not presently aware that what they do contributes Free Culture (many Free Software supporters infact haven't yet realized that Free Software movement isn't a lone movement in a fight for a free world, it's part of a bigger one: Free Culture Movement.)

All that might be seem a bit too ambitious, but as you can see it's technically very simple. It's just a matter of how far we go to cooperate on real projects once we interlink each other. From that point on anything is possible.

Thanks
Daniel

Maybe the alliance page is a good place to test drive the directory software we have been talking about using for other purposes...

It can be used for alliance site if we find it good. However, I've thought of testing it right here at nuxified.org under a subdomain (subfolder) and then if it is good we just stick with it, and if not replace it with something else..
