Kopete -- Psi-like chat that remembers previous messages

I just switched from Psi to Kopete as my IM (mainly Jabber) client. One thing that annoys me is that when I close the chat window and them reopen it (by clicking on the contact I chat with or when he/she sends me a message), the conversation starts from the beginning (there is no history in the chat window). Do you know how do I change this behavior? I tried looking in the options for some half and hour and haven't found anything that looks useful.
IIRC, you have to check the menu entry "Configure Plugins" - and enable the history plugin. I cannot test this at the moment.

That's exaclty it. I had the plugin enabled actually, but the option "Show chat history in new chats" was not checked.
When this is solved, perhaps you also know if there is an option to have a 2-column list of contacts in Kopete? I have som many people on the list that I have to scroll 10 times to get to the righ one (yes I'm aware of the filtering but that's another piece of cake).

Nope it doesn't
The required bahevior would be to divide it into 2 columns (or 3,4) depending on the current width. I've seen IM clients doing this, but neither Psi nor Kopete seems to support it (or perhaps I'm missing sth again).
