List of non-free software in Ubuntu?
Anyone knows if there is anywhere a list of all non-free software included in Ubuntu, preferably the newest Edgy release?
The idea is to just make a simple script that will remove all non-free software from Edgy making it a fully Free Software installation, even though the user would still have to watch not to install anything non-free from repos. If you want a fully free Ubuntu you can consider trying gNewSense (personally I think they could use a better name, which I told them).
Anyway, I'm just kind of weirdly motivated to do this script... I'm in a kind of weird situation where I am eager to use a 100% distribution with user-friendliness and package support of Ubuntu, but the existing project which offers something like this (gNewSense) isn't exactly cutting it. :\ It is making me wish to fork the whole thing off and create my own Edgy based distro which would be Edgy, but stripped of non-free stuff and with my own marketing efforts (something GNU guys tend not to understand too well apparently). Maybe I just have too many freaking ambitions.., not to mention that my current internet connection doesn't allow maintaining a distro project (though I'm hoping for WiMax to come here soon). Who knows where will all this end up...

I could suggest that you contact bbrazil or ompaul: www.gnewsense.org
Their present edition of the completely free Ubuntu is made from Dapper. I would think they would have that list at least. Sounds like a great idea!
Hope this might help! :-)
Judging from the dates of the news on the GNewSense site, this thread was made when GNewSense was either just starting or hadn't gotten attention yet.
I think Ubuntu has all of the non-free software in multiverse and restricted repository, so just search for them in aptitude.
Doesn't it have the nonfree firmware in Linux in the main repo?
You might want to have a look at the source code of vrms: http://packages.debian.org/stable/admin/vrms
Cheers.
Yeah, vrms is interesting, but gNewSense devs said it's not really accurate.
I kinda gave up on the above project though and switched to another distro later, which has no non-free stuff by default.
