Site design suggestions
I will be working on the new header soon. It might actually be something like the one on nuxified.org since that name is voted to stay, but of course some kind of differentiation would exist.
You are free to suggest or even make your own headers and if there are a few of them we can vote to decide one.
Also I will be modifying colors of this forum. The current theme is very similar to the basic phpbb theme, but is still a bit nicer and I think it could serve as a good base for our own theme here. We just need to edit some colors, maybe replace some images and that would pretty much be it.
Now, what kind of color theme would you like? Blue, orange, green, red?
If I may say I like blues, but my idea was something orange or shades of orange.
So, what would you like?
Thanks
Daniel

Light on dark ftw.
I've just changed the theme to something different.. Still just experimenting.. Maybe this one could serve as a better base for a new theme? It has a nicer bars upthere and uses some KDE style images..
I might try a few more, but if nothing works better go back to the old one..
Thanks
Daniel
This is hideous.
This blue is fine with me, I'm not so picky about colors as long as it flows together.
Blue is fine, but it lacks a unique quality since many forums are blue it seems. Maybe something warmer, with oranges and/or reds? I find warm colours make a forum more homly and welcoming.

Ubuntu brown!

I second that. Grab the Ubuntu colour palette from here and work from that.
As for other layout issues, why not use the Tango icon set for icons. KDE's Crystal for icons don't seem like a good idea, and now that I've seen them in action I am reassured.
Lastly, I'd be happy to do any other graphics.
Cheers.
If you'd like the warmer ubuntu like feel then orangish theme would probably be the best compromise between not looking like an ubuntu forum and still retaining the warmth of the ubuntu-like colors.. Orange is pretty close to brown afterall.

Yep sounds like a good compromise. Can we use Tango? The palette, which features applicable orange tones which we can use can be found here, while the icons for the portal and smilies and other forum buttons can be found here.
Cheers.
As far as I'm concerned Tango would be great. I like it. If others do we can get on to it.
Tango themes looks great, as does the project.
I also like Tango very much.
looks nice, i couldnt see anything for phpBB.
Do you mean get the icons etc off the site?
I believe getting icons from Tango Icon Gallery was the idea.
And making (from editing some existing) a new forum theme/skin which uses the Tango colour palette for the layout's colours.
This would be the default theme/skin, but those who don't like it can just choose something else when registered in their profile options. How does that sound? Applicable? Do we agree?
As for icons, it's confirmed. I'll set some time aside and download phpbb2.x latest and fish out all artwork and begin replacing it with Tango stuff.
How about an option to choose your theme in your profile that actually works?

All part of the above Tango-sation process. No point making a theme which won't active when you select it. Mhh... wonder if it is related to that MX portal. Ever since it was set into place (although now removed, if i recall correctly), forum themes/skins weren't working anymore...
It's not related to the MX portal. The default theme is set to override other selections in profiles and that's why you're not able to switch themes. I did it to prevent someone having a different theme from the default being tested and asked for opinions about.
However, of course, you will be able to select from a few themes after they've been adapted the site. They should have a nuxified header and not theme/phpbb header for example. So we first have to make an official header (the current one is just a mock up) and then adapt it to those other themes we'd like to have selectable.
It'll all come soon enough.

Sounds good. As you know I've taken the subSilver theme and added Tango icons. Took a fair while (the Tango set is still quite primitive) and how all the remains is tweaking the CSS and some colours in GIFs. Ought not take too long...
I don't get what you want graphics for.

Well, for things like reply and new topic buttons or indicator icons (like when having new posts and such)..
/me thinks that's a waste of bandwidth and space...

All the icons together make up less than 80 KB. Once in your cache you need not reload them, and these icons still have not been run through pngcrush, so they will probably end up small still.
Also, no matter what theme you're using there are images. In some, more than others... And if I recall correctly subSilver, which we are basing the Tango theme off is quite easy on icons.
So, what does everyone think of the theme so far?
I think this site finally looks more like a new unique site and less like a default template.
Things may still change around though, like we need new "post reply", "new topic" and the likes buttons and there may be some other slight changes, but you're getting the general picture.
Cheers

Those buttons (ie. "post reply" and such) should be fixed by the end of the week I should say.
I agree it does look great guys!
You should publish it in the phpBB styles section

Has that been done? :smiling:

Ah, I haven't got around to that yet.. I have to prepare a package to their specs first. Will do though. It's one of the aces up the sleeve for Nuxified.org promotion. Another is the announcement of it existence to the FOSS media.
Cheers
Daniel
Sounds good, give me, well us I guess actually, a buzz when it's up on the skins phpbb site. I want to link to it under wombat.nuxified.com/subtango :smiling:
Cheers,

Oh thanks, will do.
