Spanish Translation status
OK, so how far are we with the Spanish translation?
I have transfered 80% of the content to HTML.
Unfortunately I don't think I will make it for the planned date. Things are happenning too fast for me (this week-end I must travel 2x 1300km by train to fetch some luggage, and I have studies to study!) and I propose to postpone by another week (so target release on Sat 28th).
The transfer is a slow process because of all the links and XHTML markup that has to be carefully added and checked, not mentionning relative addresses. So far I have spent 16hrs on it.
There are a few pages that have been much improved in English since they have been translated. It would be really cool if translators could update them. For this I copied the corresponding English text back into the Spanish wiki (see the Recent Changes for details.
The About page and both FAQs can be written/translated loosely, if you wish it (for example, give yourself credit in the About page if you wish). I'd really like to keep the translation very close to original on the main pages, but feel free to modify these secondary pages. I have copied the rather "strict" translations so far and will adapt according to changes on the wiki.
The Legal page can be left aside, in my opinion. We can stick to the English one untill all of the translation runs smoothly (unless someone translates this horrible text fully).
About the frontpage graphic (the Ubuntu menu), I will bring this up in the forum very soon.
I have set-up a "Beta" version in the download file to try things out. edit:file is available. I encourage everyone to play with it, starting maybe from the site map (/about/site_map/index.htm inside the download file). There will be many quirks, but we can solve them all before the site goes online.
I hope this is ok with you and I apologise for the delay. Thank you very much for the wonderful (and voluminous) work translating.
