If it hasn't been automatically detected and installed it might not be supported. I've done a quick search and it seems you don't have much luck. There seems to be only a non-free driver with a "demo" freeware here: http://www.turboprint.de/english.html
But if anyone possible it might be a good idea to consider buying a printer from HP, Epson and such which are well supported.
I'm sorry about that situation. It's not the fault of GNU/Linux and Free Software programmers, but the Canon's since they apparently don't want to release drivers.
Maybe the printer can be used with the driver of a similar printer.
I have an Epson Stylus C79 and have to use the driver of the C68. Maybe you just browse through the driver-database CUPS offers you and check if you find something close enough to your model.
There is drivers for Canon i450, i455, i470d, i550, etc.
You may luck out by using one of their drivers. I've seen it
with others before. No guarantee, but.

Often you can "cheat" - that is use a driver for a printer similar to
what you have. I noticed on
http://www.linux-foundation.org/en/OpenPrinting
-> printer

That's great. I've read someone mention that driver, but it didn't work well for him. I suppose you had better luck. Thanks for sharing that.
Cheers
