Compiz faster than beryl?

Something I noticed since I tried Ubuntu Feisty is how smoothly do the 3D desktop effects work out of the box. There are no glitches and any kinds of slow downs at all. Ubuntu by default uses compiz instead of beryl so I'm left wondering, since beryl does take some tuning to get the decent performance and smoothness, if compiz is actually a bit lighter and faster than beryl and why is that?

I tried both of them on Debian Testing as well and I noticed the same difference. Compiz works flawlessly out of the box, no tuning required.

Has anyone noticed the same?

Yeah I have. I used to use

Yeah I have. I used to use Beryl all the time. It was fast, but when I tried Compiz, that changed. I found Compiz so so so much faster -- it doesent really have a GUI editor for settings like Beryl Setting Manager in Ubuntu but you can open System Tools -> Configuration Eiditor -> Apps -> Compiz. I think Compiz is so much faster because it has less plugins, less customizations?

I'm on beryl on Ubuntu

I'm on beryl on Ubuntu Feisty now after all and it appears to be quite fast actually, not faster than compiz I suppose, but I don't really notice a difference. The reason for using beryl is that it's easier to tweak and has more themes through emerald. I like those OSX style windows so I'm using an "Eternal" aqua theme.

I guess the older versions were a bit slower. On Debian it really did seem slower and buggier, but on Feisty it just works now.
