Dapper Drake -- Hefty System Requirements?

Dapper Drake -- Hefty System Requirements?

There are two main things I want to know about the new Dapper Drake release.

  • If I don't enable XGL, is it still very slow on an 800Mhz with 256MB RAM? That's all I have right now, unfortunately. I's po.
  • Can I still install Apache and PHP4 without much hassle? Unfortunately my project I'm working on still requires this because not until PHP5+ (5.5, 6, etc.) comes out will I consider making my code work in PHP5. I'm that kind of conservative programmer. I found, oddly enough, that when I upgraded from Hoary to Breezy, it was not too easy to get Apache and PHP4 installed with all the modules I needed unless I followed a certain sequence with apt, and it wasn't very straightforward and obvious.

I am running it on my 1.33ghz comp

XGL is not as default. gnome is how ever you could get xubunu which has xfce which is lighter

Php4 and 5 are in the apt sources.

I ran Xubuntu on a 366 MHz

I ran Xubuntu on a 366 MHz laptop with 160 MB RAM. It was a little bit slow, but it did run OK. I would imagine it would run a lot better on your system than it did mine. Smiling
