Equivalent software
OK, So I thought it would be a good idea to make a post in the misc section that we could update/add stuff to as time goes on, or I get suggestions, so here it goes:
If you want to run:
AOL messenger- There is GAIM and Kopete, which do very well at more than just AOL, but msn messenger and others, so try and use them, there are updated a lot more than AOL messenger for unix.
Photshop- There is the GIMP which does a very good job at photoshop type stuff, so try that. There is also GIMPSHOP, if you want a photoshop like interface.
mIRC- IRRSI, Xchat, *****X
FTP client- GFTP KBear, Konquerer, Krusader, ftp
Internet Explorer- Links, Firefox, Mozilla, opera
Netmeeting- Gnomemeeting
Winamp- XMMS, Xine, beep-media-player
Paint- Tux Paint
3DstudioMax- blender
MS Office- openOffice, abiword, Koffice
Outlook- thunderbird, Sylpheed
Powerpoint- OO Impress
Excel- OO calc
Word- OO writer
Winrar- karchiver
Notepad- Kwrite
IIS- Apache
AntiVirus- ClamAV
OK, so that is all I can think of at the minute, please post below if there is more and I will add them to the main post, along with you name next to it so it doesnt look like i am letting you lot do all the work.
onlinebacon
PS: This is a good post for people who are new to linux/bsd or whatever. So please don't lock it
Great list onlinebacon, good job, no need to lock it.
I would just like to add krusader as FTP client as I think it is definitely one of the best, if not the best free FTP clients out there. I use it all the time and it's excellent.
For winamp equivalent I would also add beep-media-player which is basically like XMMS, but with nicer GTK2 interface.
Oh and for outlook equivalent another great email client is sylpheed. It's very fast, easy to use and yet featureful email program.
Thanks
Daniel
Actually yes.. this could also be copied to the libervis wiki. Although there is a certain advantage of having it right here on forums.. :-k
for more free software just do a search at a site like http://directory.fsf.org
I make an attempt to maintain a list of Free Software Hosts and Directories.
