Ethernet breaking up

It appears that on one of our computers something is wrong with the ethernet chips of the motherboard, but I'm not sure. It has a SiS 730S chipset.
For the last couple of days, without any reason it just stops working and then randomly starts working after a few restarts of the computer or reinitialization of the network interface (eth0) and the route setting.
What makes me think it is a hardware problem is that nothing was changed at all. It just started happening by itself. What do you think?
I guess it might not be such a big deal overall.. I'm building a new computer anyway so my current one (with working ethernet) will go to my sisters, I'm just curious.
Thanks

It sounds like there's either dust screwing up the ethernet, or it's just broken.
Hmm could be dust. That box is closed, but it seems to have quite a bit of dust accumulated in it. Gonna have to clean it up a bit and see..
Thanks
