Game servers for the festival
Fri, 2007-10-05 17:21
Here we will list the necessary information about game servers for our game fest. Servers are hosted by a Cluenet.org cooperative, Mercenaries Guild, <æ href="http://wraths.dyndns.org/">Wraths, Rainbow Networks, Nexuiz Ladders, DarkSyndicate and HSP.HK. Thanks guys!
EDIT: Up to date server info available on the tournaments page of freedomware-gamefest.com.
--------------------------
You are encouraged to connect above and test them out, see how's your lag and how do you like the current configuration. I'd assume something close to defaults might suit most people while maps and modes of play may be changed depending on the match we'll have scheduled. Any questions and suggestions are welcome below.
Thank you.

I can't jump in BZflag.
I tried reconfiguring my keys but it still doesn't work.
Yes, I'm a newbie in that game. So what? That's what's this Festival is for, no? ^^
But I started reading about all the different flags. Sounds fun.
Other than that connection to the server worked well.
Yes I later noticed that as well, can't jump. I'm gonna forward that to Cluenetiers.
EDIT: Fixed.
I and KIAze have tested the Nexuiz server too and here are some of the observations. Please everyone feel free to try it out yourself and post if you'd like something changed or if you have an issue with it.
For Nexuiz just post as a reply to this post (we have threaded view enabled by default so this should work well).
- Disable the anti-camping feature - it's too restrictive and probably unnecessary. If someone wants to just sit somewhere he's sooner or later gonna be blasted for it anyway, no need for the server to be punishing people. It ends up eating your health even when you go type something for chat.
- Make more weapons available around the maps for picking up.
Those should apply regardless of the game mode (currently it's set to last man standing).
I also have a lag of about 170 which isn't too drastic, but not the best either, but it's playable I suppose. Edit: I should say I'm in Croatia, Europe and the server is in US.
I'll try it a bit later. It seems my notebook is able to run Nexuiz, OpenArena and Tremolous quite nicely. Which is good, that way I don't need to play using Windows. :-)
I'll let you know how it went in about an hour or two.
Edit: Oooh, bad bad ping, over 300, which is not very nice. Problem seems to be that that setting, in Germany called fastpath (which seems to be just deactivation of interleaving), for DSL-speedup is not used here.
When I got my line they told me I could play, but probably they were thinking about playing Flash-games on Yahoo or something...
Gotta talk to my ISP these days and see if there's something I can threaten them with. Also I want access to external SMTPs. Can you imagine that, my ISP won't let me connect to port 25 outside their network! SMTPS works fine though...
The Mercenaries Guild will be happy to provide a Tremulous server for the tourney. Server is Located in Dallas, Texas, USA.
You can connect to the "Pure Tremulous" servers currently running on the server (69.41.162.130:30720 and 69.41.162.130:30721) (/connect lolcat.mercenariesguild.net works as well) to test your connection. A separate server will be setup for the tourney on the same box with the settings you guys want.
We are also willing to provide game servers for other games in the forum as needed, depending on the game and how lazy we are to compile it >_>

That's great to hear!
So we basically have Europe and US covered now. We should try to take geographical position in mind, as you suggested on IRC, when organizing matches, though that is gonna be quite a challenge.. anyway that's for another thread.
I'll update the original post with this info.
Thanks again.
I can't join both Alien's Wrath and Pure Tremulous server cause both the servers' max ping settings is set to 150 and 200 accordingly and I got 300-400 + ping at both the servers. =( Pure Tremulous have unllaged on which is good but Alien's Wrath server doesn't.
I'll try to ask a friend of mine to host a server for the gamefest. He's from Hong Kong btw and I'm sure those from any where near here will not have any ping issue connecting to it if it is hosted.
This is a bit problematic. Even if we have a server in HK, with such a small number of players actually in that area it is going to be very hard integrating you in any teams or matches.. If we have a match on a HK server it is likely that both US and EU participants would be at a disadvantage.
Unless.. the HK is some sort of a soft spot between US and EU with acceptable latencies from both sides.. but I doubt that.
I think this is one of the worst issues regarding an international tourney like this.. Earth is too big. :puzzled:
I tried out PT and ATCS wrath(that's what the link leads to, and I could not find aliens wrath.),I get good ping on pure tremulous and 150-170 on ARCS wrath. so if at all possible, I'd like to play on pure trem.
FYI the PT Server has a good community of admins that are consistantly on and are pretty thorough about keeping the servers hacker/botter free. The servers themselves are also Noob friendly if you're just learning the game and admins are more than willing to help you learn the basics if you're willing to listen and read the faq.

So when does it start? Any provisional calendar at least?
Also, have any of you tried globulation 2? It runs fine for me under Windows, but on Ubuntu it segfaults. :/
Deadline: November 22
If you are still in need of tournament servers for Open Arena, then The Rainbow Networks will help with sponsoring some for this event. Our server listings are on http://servers.sytes.net and you can visit us on irc.freenode.net #rainbow or through our site for more info.
That's great to hear w1zrd. Thank you. I've managed to set up an OpenArena server on Cluenet, but if we'll ever need one having a backup is great.
The most up to date server infos are here: http://www.freedomware-gamefest.com/tournaments
But I'll update this topic too.
