Getting sites to link to GetGNU/Linux.Org

Thinking about promoting this site, do you think it is worth trying to contact the major sites, informing them about our campaign and how we are trying to start a concept similar to SpreadFirefox and ask them whether they would consider having a link button. I am willing to write to people on the sites behalf. Also, should we post in forums, trying to be as un-spam-like as possible, in order to raise user awareness.
One idea I have to mention is to put GetGNULinux.org link in your signatures on all forums that you participate in. This is a way to promote the site without it being branded as spam.
Although Nuxified.org already links to GGL, I think there is a bit of value in adding a GGL link in your sig even here.
