How should forum topics look?

As it currently stands, forum topics look different than comments in other sections, such as comments to articles. This was done to at least partly simulate the old phpbb style that many have been used to.

However, you now have a chance to see both possible designs and their advantages and disadvantages and decide what would you like more?

Would you like forum topics to look like this what you see in front of you (here is an example with more posts) or like this?

The basic difference is that with the current design forum topics have an avatar and post information on the right to the post content (the way phpbb does it) along with some info like post count and the time of joining) while in the alternative comments view (the second option above) has that avatar on the right and text merely wrapped around it. The obvious disadvantage of the current forum topic design seems to be that the space below the avatar is actually wasted making the width of the content area lesser. The advantage is however familiarity.

Maybe we could really be a bit progressive about this and have forum topics look same as comments, but modify the looks to be even more fitting for both.. In a way maybe we could be a little innovative when it comes to desiging usable forums.. I'm certainly willing to give it a go, if you believe something like that would be a good idea.

That wouldn't be a major change as it is just a design, but we're still in "beta" so to speak (as noted in the header) and that would be the stage where we test various things out until we solidify to something everyone will find best.

Thank you
Daniel

Alright, I've hopefully made some improvements to the whole experience by reducing font size to a normal size that most other sites employ. We had it a little bit over that and therefore certain sections, like forum topics, might have seemed a bit crowded. Smaller fonts make more room for text so it feels a bit more spacey. I've also shrinked sidebars (left and right columns) so that more space is left for real content. It's tiny things, but I think you'll notice the difference. Eye-wink

Of course, the above question still stands. You are able to choose.

Thank you

I don't mind either possibility, however I think it would be very nice if forum posts and comments in other parts of the site looked exactly the same.

Alrighty, anyone else?

I actually wouldn't mind either way as well, though I think forum topics actually look good already. I just need to get the comment anchors working on it (jumping to comment stuff).

I can't change much based on one opinion only though, so please say what you would like everyone! Eye-wink

Thank you

I'll say I like site continuety (don't think that's spelt right =/ ). Though since forum comments and article comments are different things and serve different purposes, I like them as they are now. Since in the forum they show some kind of equality to all the posts, and in the articles they show that the article, is well the article.

Forums are phpBBish and articles are bloggish.

The Forum area looks good ! But now I want to SEARCH something inside Nuxified.org (while I am in Forum...) and there is no SEARCH...

I think the SEARCH should be in the head of Drupal and be displayed in all areas of the site !

Wink

Keep up the good work !!!

Thanks kanenas. I tried putting it in a header just now, but it doesn't really fit so well. So till we find a better solution I've just moved the search box to the left (below the Ruffdogs ad) which is now going to be visible on all pages. Smiling
