Huh, what's KDE.
The select a distrobution page says, in the Fedora section:
although it is also possible to use KDE like Kubuntu
Huh, what's KDE. I know I know what it is, but to someone who does not know Linux, it might not be obvious that KDE is the thing that makes Kubuntu look different (it could be something else found in Kubuntu, but not Ubuntu). I would suggest adding a note to the Ubuntu section, so that it reads:
Ubuntu also has a sister distribution, Kubuntu, with a different layout and slightly more advanced graphics. (The difference in graphics is due to a different window manager called KDE)
"Window manager" or "KDE" could link to a FAQ entry explaining how you can use different window managers on Linux, and what they are.
What do you think? I think there definitely needs to be some explanation as t owhat KDE is.

Good catch. I would say "desktop environment" instead of window manager though. Kwin is a window manager and it's only a part of the KDE environment.
Yes, you're right, "desktop environment" is the correct term. Its also better bedcause it doesn't use the term window, so is less confusing (as people might assume it is releated to the OS Microsoft Windows).
Well, I agree with you both.
Cheers!
All my apologies for the late reply. Nice catch Bjwebb ;-)
I am of the opinion to mention the term "desktop environment" only in the Fedora description. Windows users never had this choice, and maybe insisting too much on "choice, possibilities, customization" is not relevant or even frightening.
My proposal would be to leave the Kubuntu description as it is, ie:
Ubuntu also has a sister distribution, Kubuntu, with a different layout and slightly more advanced graphics.
and change the Fedora description to:
The default layout is similar to Ubuntu (it is also possible to use KDE, the more advanced desktop environment in use in Kubuntu), but...
The goal is simply to keep the description of Ubuntu + Kubuntu as simple and light as possible. Tell me if it sounds ok, otherwise I'll do as you suggested.
I sound "picky" here but we have to very carefully weigh each word. These sentences are probably the last ones the reader reads before making a decision (go download a cd).
thanks
Olivier
That looks simple yet explains it well enough.
Yes, I agree.
Looks good to me.
