Infrared receiver setup

Infrared receiver setup

I've got an USB infrared receiver (MA-610) so I can transfer files from my mobile phone to my computer via infrared. However, it looks like it is still one among those devices which isn't so easy to set up as, for example, USB cameras or maybe USB sticks (plug and play basically).

I've looked through some guides and it looks like I definitely need IrDA package for GNU/Linux (which I've got) with an irda and irda_usb kernel modules modprobed (which I did) and then I suppose I have to attach them with irattach, which I tried without success so far.

The sign of success is supposed to be when the receiver yellow LED starts flashing. It didn't flash yet, and my mobile couldn't find the device even when I pointed each other to each other..

Any easy to follow quick guide, or maybe a program that detects everything and makes it easy to set up? Did anyone set this sort of thing up for themselves?

Thanks
