I come from the bottom of loch lomond, small town called Balloch

Been a linux user for nigh on two years, though only really constant for about a year (used to dual boot)
Currently using gentoo on my webserver,
Semi Started LFS, and Suse 10.0 on the desktop,
And Mac os X (yes propriety) on my laptop,
Plan to get linux on it too, as soon as i get an external hard drive, tho i did once have gentoo on it, but disliked it due to lack of airport supoort

When I'm not involved in F/L/OSS I'm working towards my A level qualifications in Maths, Physics, Technology and Geography.
When involved in F/L/OSS I'm writing some crappy script, helping out with the Jedi/GNU or Kyfieithu projects, or trying to learn a computer language.

Music wise I like the old stuff, mainly from the '60's and '70's, such as T.Rex, Pink Floyd and the Beatles. I try and read when I have the time, science, science fiction, and modern classics mostly.

I run two Gentoo Boxen, and one dualboot Win/distro of the month.

Why are you using separate hard drives rather than partitions on a single hard drive?

blumer here, checking in. I came over from GUILinux.com, or rather, from #guilinux, since I really didn't spend all that much time on the site/in the forums, and in all honesty, I probably won't be on nuxified.org much, either, but I'm in IRC pretty much all the time, so I'll see you all there!

I'm 26 and a software developer for Ruffdogs, Inc. in Fort Collins, CO. Been using Linux exclusively for ... gosh, six years now? Currently have Ubuntu on my my work desktop, my home desktop, and my laptop.

When I'm not on the computer, I'm usually at either practice or a show with the Clown Box, an improv comedy group based in Fort Collins. I've been doing improv for about 4 years now, and we're just starting to make our move to bigger and better theaters in Colorado as well as attending and performing at national improv festivals.

I'm James, currently living in Barrie, Ontario.

I've been using computers for almost 20 years, and Linux for about 8 of them. I currently have three servers running Fedora Core 4, one server running Fedora Core 5, a Fedora Core 5 workstation, and a Win2k Pro workstation.

I own a small software consulting firm which has been keeping me pretty busy lately. In my spare time, I'm designing and implementing the 'room full of tech gadgets' that libervisco talked about previously in this thread, along with the very large data backend for it. As part of this system, I'm building a purely source-based, command line only Linux distribution which will be released separately whenever I think it's ready.

I dislike forums, so you won't see my post count very high around here, but I hang out in IRC when I can.

Hello! My name is Anders (Btw,Not Andres ) and I come from cold Norway. I just put a z in the nick instead cause I'm talentless creating nicks lol. After 1,5 year of trying different distros withouth much luck, I finally found Ubuntu another half year ago, and have pretty much used it ever since. And, shame on me, I'm still a dual booter, but perhaps with time I get a chance to fix that....

Since I have never used this thread to introduce myself properly, although I'm already here for quite a while (not very active though, but sometimes sharing my thoughts on things), I want to take this chance to let you know a little about myself.

My name is Dennis, on the net I usually go by the name reptiler (although there's also exceptions since this nick isn't the oldest one I have, but the one I decided to stick with some time ago). I was born in 1979 in Duisburg, Germany. Since November 2004 I live in Hong Kong and will get married in a couple of days (in Las Vegas).
As far as I remember I got my first PC in 1992 or 1993 (don't remember exactly, but it was for Xmas, a 486 SX-25 with 4MB RAM, 120MB hard-drive and a graphics-card with 512KB of RAM) running on DOS 5.something and also coming with Windows 3.1. I hardly used Windows since I had no real use for it, so I played around in DOS. Tweaking the config.sys and autoexec.bat was one big thing I did since games at that time always needed some funky memory-configuration. After that I had Win95 for a long, long time, from the Beta until I switched to Win2K. I didn't like Win98 and also skipped WinME. Both didn't offer anything exciting I really needed or wanted so I kept using 95.
My first contact with Linux was in 1999 (my first serious contact, meaning really installing and using it) with Suse 6.2. I'm not running Suse anymore, now it's LFS, and between Suse and LFS I had Slackware and also an older LFS-version (but most of my Linux-time I spent with Slackware). And I'm still running a dual-boot with Win2K, and I don't really think it's a really bad thing. Windows for me is a gaming-system. I do all my work with Linux and when I want to play some games I switch to Windows.

I usually compile software by myself, I used to do that right from the beginning with Suse, so I'm pretty much used to it. That might be one reason why I chose Linux from Scratch to be the system I want to stick with and which also led to my current project, a shell-script based automation of the LFS-installation.
When I was younger I did quite some programming, mostly Turbo Pascal, some Assembler, Delphi and also C/C++. Nowadays I mostly write PHP-code or, for my project, shell-scripts. But when there's a problem compiling something I'm not afraid to look into the code and, if I can find the code with what's left of what I know about C, try to fix it.
The biggest thing in C I did during the last years was an virus-scanner based on LibClamAV, to hook into our mail-server. I didn't really what I had there so I thought I could give it try.

More than programming I focus on networking and security, especially IPTables.

Well, that's pretty much everything I guess.

My name is Larry Cafiero, and I am a journalist Living and working on the Central Coast of California. I work on the news desk of the Santa Cruz Sentinel in Santa Cruz -- that's what I do for a living, My avocation is evangelizing for FLOSS through my magazine and Web site, Open Source Reporter, and my blog, which is "Larry the Open Source Guy". The magazine, a bimonthly, is schedule to premiere in the fall.

[Since this always comes up: I'm a firm believer in, and an unequivocal advocate of, Free Software, as defined by Richard Stallman and the Free Software Foundation, of which I am an associate member. The reason my business partner and I settled on the name "Open Source Reporter" was a.) because Free Software Magazine was taken, and b.) to avoid the explanation of "free-as-in-no-cost" software, we found the term "open source" covered free software without the baggage. However, there is a good chance the print version will be called "Open Source and Free Software Reporter" since FLOSS Magazine is already taken (it's a fashion magazine . . .)]

I got into FLOSS through political channels, interestingly. As a Green and the California candidate for Insurance Commissioner last year (270,218 votes, 3.2 percent), during the campaign I complained to one of the Green Party's IT guys the fact that I didn't have the software to compete with the major party candidates. On the contrary, he said, and introduced me to the FLOSS alternatives to the proprietary programs I thought I lacked. Hence, I was converted to GNU/Linux and now I try to convince people to see what FLOSS alternatives are available to the proprietary hegemony from both Redmond and Cupertino.

Let's see . . . what else? I'm a Deadhead, environmentalist, father of one, I drive a '94 Jetta which in about a month will have the specialty license plate "GNU LNUX" (there are only 7 letters available, and "LINX" looks like "links"), and by reading this far without falling asleep, you can see that I talk too much.

I am an IT professional based in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. At home, I use BLAG (a Fedora-based distro) on both desktop and laptop, but by day I use a Windows 2000 desktop to administer both Windows and Solaris-based application servers. We use Open Software solutions like Nagios and Hyperic in house, but are looking to expand the Linux influence into the enterprise server environment.

My name is Paul, I'm a webmaster for some time now and following a thread at Digital Point I stumbled on this forum, it seems very interesting so I think I will stay for a while.
