Hi all,

I'm in a hurry so keeping things short: We're finally reaching the end of our current pile of GGL T-shirts. For the next ones we can have another design.
I've made a couple of drafts here (attached), feel free to comment and suggest your own designs.

The idea behind this one is to be more international (barely any text), more "modern", more sexy, less "male-only" (ie it's got to work on female T-shirts as well). As usual, we will send T-shirts to our main contributors, and (likely but not completely sure) will keep selling them over the net. This time we'll have more L and even XLs =)

We have to be fast in order to have them by the time the Paris Capitale du Libre event is here, so next week I will pay for the order. Contributions and criticisms welcome,

Thanks,

Olivier.

I prefer the 2nd one,

I prefer the 2nd one, mostly because the penguin simply looks a lot better than on the first one.

Why now "GNU/Linux Matters"

Why now "GNU/Linux Matters" somewhere? What if we use GLM's mascot?

I'd say second one as

I'd say second one as well.

Also, I think Gustavo might be right about putting "GNU/Linux Matters" and/or its mascot on somewhere on the shirt.

Cheers

Judging by the way people

Judging by the way people looked a the T-shirts at the RMLL, and by their enquiries, I think that the phrase "GNU/Linux Matters" is not going to be very popular. Most people came to the booth for the copyleft on the back, and were not always happy to have to have a "GNU/Linux" on the front.
In fact the only one person who wanted a gnu on the T-shirt was... Richard Stallman and... he would not have bought one anyway.

Unlike a website, here we are not trying to affect people's opinions, and we do have something to sell. The T-shirts order will cost roughly 450 euros (which is about one month's budget for me) and to be frank I'd love to sell them a little quicker than the past ones (which lasted 12 months, and many were sent for free). I don't want to be stuck with 45 T-shirts that most of us love but nobody buys.

In addition, there is a possibility that we change our name in the coming month. This will be discussed internally in a couple of weeks.

So overall I would like to avoid the mascot and the name GLM, for this order at least. I made a little try (attached) with a gnu nevertheless, so everyone can judge. It looks a little like a Hawaïan surfer shirt =)

Mmh, the Gnu looks more

Mmh, the Gnu looks more like an elephant to me that way...

And what about the link to GGL like on the previous shirt?

As for the slogan, my personal favorite is: "Unlock your computing" from the GGL ads. Eye

Why? Does he consider you as his competitors? ^^

me too =) Whichever way I try, I cannot make the silhouette of this gnu into a nice-looking anything.

Well, given the current trend (hint) the English URL won't be our prime message, very soon. Anyways, no more than 4 T-shirts among the 46 we've sent/sold (18 at the RMLL, 1/3 of the rest sold on the net, 2/3 sent to translators/members) now sit in an English-speaking country.
So the best bet is to be URL-less, since we just can't afford to have a Tee for every site.

He's just not interested in buying merchandise I suppose. I'm not in very good terms personally with the FSF but this is not the point I wast trying to make - merely that there's a difference between making a product that we like and one that sells.

I finally got in touch with

I finally got in touch with the T-shirt printing shop and it should be ok for a printing before the Paris event in September. I should have a confirmation in the coming week. In August, France is on vacation =)

I made a couple more proposals, mixing the 2 first penguin design to make hybrids.

quote is in

I have just received the quote from the vendor. The order will go forward on Sept 1st, T-shirts will be in by the 20th.

I am strongly leaning towards the 4th design (tshirt_4.png on previous post). If you have other ideas, please draw them out. Keep in mind that the investment is just 500 euros - this is more than what my car is worth. I won't be able to cover eventual losses any more so the requirement is to go for a "safe" design here.

Thanks,

Olivier.

I think fourth one is fine.

I think fourth one is fine. It looks pretty elegant with that penguin and a quite visible copyleft sign on the sleeve.

The only disadvantage I'd note is lack of a plug for GLM, but that's understandable if there is a potential name change. People who buy it will know who they got it from. Albeit.. maybe, an URL to the "flag site" as it were, the GetGNULinux.org, could be placed somewhere since it's unlikely to change its name and it's pretty related to the image of a penguin and copyleft.

Maybe it could be in medium letters in the upper part of the back of the shirt or on the other sleeve, though it can be argued this would make it look just a little too cluttered..

It's just a thought. It's pretty good in any case.

Whops, sorry for late

Whops, sorry for late update. Just gave the print shop a call today.

- The design will be #3
- We'll have different sizes this time! Men and Women of all sizes, especially L and XL.

The T-shirts have arrived at the shop and the printing should start next week, in time for the planned schedule.

Cheers!

Olivier.
