We are introducing a new article series on PolishLinux.org -- tips and tricks for amatour GIMP users. Photoshop is not the only program you can do great things with, and these turorials will hopefully I hope this will be something our readers are waiting for.
The first article in the series show how to create a Neon Inscription with GIMP (update: digg it here)
If you have some ideas for next GIMP-related tutorials, feel free to list them here. We'll try to do our best to cover the issues that you would like to know about.

That link could be helpful for getting some ideas for the series. Maybe you could cover animations? That requires a "gap" plug-in, but is actually quite easy to do. I think gap is available in most popular distros' repositories.
There is also a way to do simple animations without the gimp animation package (gap): http://gimp.org/tutorials/Simple_Animations/
Thanks for your comment. Indeed we are going to show some animations with GIMP, hopefully during the next week or two another tutorial will appear.

Just as you requested, the new article in the series requires GAP: http://polishlinux.org/apps/graphics/gimp-tricks-rotating-sphere-with-gap/
It describes how to create an animated square with some pattern with GIMP + GAP. Have a good reading!

Cute, that reminds me I once had the idea of making a chocolate window manager theme. Anyone who feels like it is free to "steal" the idea.
