New site: your suggestions welcome
There is a new site being built as part of the Libervis Network. Just as our previous two, this one as well follows the theme of promoting digital freedom and opennes in some way. It is about open mobile communications and related devices: http://www.MobiLiberty.com
There may be some cross-relation between it and Nuxified.org, because mobile phones too run Free Software, and Nuxified.org is about supporting Free Software.
You are invited to check out what it is all about and then make suggestions, propose ideas and this way possibly affect what it will finally be: http://www.mobiliberty.com/shaping_concept
Anonymous comments are enabled so you don't need to register there to post your comment. Of course, you can post in this thread as well.
Thanks

I've looked at the site, the content seems fine as well as you're plans for it. I do though have a problem with the logo - it seems a bit unfinished due to what's on the mobile's screen (the case etc. looks great
), I think it's a bit busy with rather gaudy colours, though this may just be my individual artistic impression.
You really need to set a background color for the main content. There's something about the phone in the logo... It appears to be upside down (as if you're holding it up to the sky and looking at it from below). That sure is an interesting concept but it needs some extra detail to show that the phone is indeed being held up to the sky. I'd like to see an OLPC laptop in the logo too, or something else to suggest it's not only an OpenMoko fansite.
Maybe continuing on the Nuxified theme by showing Tux making a phone call is a good alternate logo idea.
Thanks for your suggestions. I'll work on it today.
About the logo, yeah I'll probably make some changes.. or maybe make a different image. I'm just not sure about putting an OLPC inthere though. The site wont be about laptops really so OLPC is more like an exception because it is small and not a standart type of laptop.
But in general laptops are, although also mobile, standard computers like your PC, and are usually covered by sites like Nuxified.org already.
Something with a Tux sounds like a nice idea, so I might try that.
I did say on IRC this is the MobiLiberty Header v0.1. Things can improve by v1.0.
You really need to set a background color for the main content.
Seconded.
A quick sketch:
Yeah, it should be set now.
Hehe nice concept; GNU's horns are emitting mobile signals.
I'll see if I can use that in some way, but more polished.
OK I made a few concept drafts of which one might end up in the header or at the very least inspire further design ideas.
Here we go...
Let me know what you think or if you have any ideas.
Thanks
Much better. Now to critisise, the last one looks as if Tux is the devil, the moblile/bord in the first looks a bit 2D and the flightpath a bit vauge, the best is the second, though I think the image on the mobile needs to be different/improved, though I'm not very sure with what; maybe just something which looks less like a line-drawing
All this looks very promising

Hehe yeah you're right. On the first image that is not actually a flightpath, though it could be. I don't know, it's kind of like some celebratory ribbon of creativity or who knows.. It's actually quite silly.
Anyway I may rework that to look like a real flightpath.
The last one does remind slightly of the devil hehe.. but it's a GNU hat he's wearing, but I haven't managed to make them look like horns that aren't evilish.
I think I'll work on the first two a bit more to just make the modifications you suggested and then show them here.
Thanks
The second one definitely is the best, the phone looks realistic in that one. I would suggest replacing the GNU by a freedom/libervis sun. Or how about Tux coming out of the screen as if it's an open window?
I'm not sure it'd be good to have tux show up twice, though I'm not sure.. hmm.. I guess I'll experiment a bit with it.
Thanks
1. It's not all about Linux.
2. Good, but phone is lacking a third dimension.
3. What's on Tux's head isn't clear enough.
I meant Tux coming out of the phone instead of holding it.
1. It's not all about Linux.
It's not all about phones either :/ .
It is not, but it is probably *mostly* about phones powered by GNU/Linux. We have to have a logo that would be widely understood and attractive. Whichever we pick it'd be a kind of a compromise to some part of the topic we cover or otherwise it'd probably be a bit too abstract.
Anyway, I'll work on these graphics a bit today as well..
Thanks
what about stuff like iPodLinux or Rockbox ?
Those would be covered too.
I've updated the second graphic. Added a blury shadow to enhance the 3D sense and changed the logo on the screen. I tried to make an image with Tux coming out of a window, briefly, but it seems rather complicated. I might play with it a bit later.
You can see the latest graphic live on the site.
Design is really something we can be improving later on (just as with Nuxified) and right now we just have to have something decent as a good start, so we don't need to get everything perfect at the beginning. There are quite a bit of more prevalent technical issues waiting to be dealth with.
Thanks
The main background color still isn't set.
Hmm I set it.. it's either the cache issue or there's some CSS section I missed.. How do I change the default background from Firefox (so it's not white) so I can test this out myself?
Thanks
Edit>Preferences>Content>Fonts & Colors>Colors...
Ok, thanks. I fixed and tested it and it's ok now.
