Nexuiz 1vs1 scheduling
Nexuiz 1vs1 tournament groups and matches have been defined, with the exception of the seventh group which we hope to fill in soon.
Please take a look there and see what matches do you have and report here about your availability. We're hoping to do some matches tonight already (Saturday 9 PM GMT and on) if any pair of opponents is available.
So just post the soonest time you are available so we can match you up. Most participants noted the weekends and during the weekdays mostly evenings so we should try to cluster our availability on those points in time.
After you post I will set the date, hour and minute if necessary and you should then show up about 15 minutes in advance on #gamefest IRC channel on irc.freenode.net or #gamefest.nexuiz on irc.quakenet.org to be quickly briefed on the rules and sent to a match.
The rules are simple when it comes down to it. Each player chooses one map and you play both until the timelimit or max number of frags are hit. You MUST record a demo for inspection purposes!
Thank you
Available for games Saturday CET 21:30 - 00:30, Sunday 11:30 - 22:30. Not available Monday.
Hopefully I will be able to play Sunday afternoon or night US Eastern Standard Time (-5 I think). Weekdays, I have only a few blocks of time where I absolutely can't play. I think that Europen "evenings" will not be a problem. That would be midday in most of the US.
..so I should be able to start Monday if not Sunday. Regardless, I'll probably be able to accomodate all/most of my opponents. [Note that weekends are not that great for me, but I may be able to squeeze something in whenever I know ahead of time. I did not specify this in the sign-up page since my schedule will probably not be a problem if push comes to shove.]
Could we get something up on the game fest homepage that alerts people to this scheduling that is currently underway. It may help push things along faster/smoother.
I am available from now on for another 1.5h
I am also available tomorrow basically throughout the day. I will have things like lunch etc., thats understood, but other than that I am available, and I can be contacted by using IRC at #gamefest.nexuiz at QuakeNet
My timezone is GMT+1
Available for the rest of tonight and, most likely, all of tomorrow.
(Going to go shower, and then I'll pop in #gamefest[.nexuiz] for more info.)
@Jose, I'll try to put a brief colorful status box on the homepage which will show current status of tournaments with a link to more info.
And btw, I will unfortunately be away most of the day after 3 or 4 PM GMT+1 tomorrow (sunday), but I'll probably be back around 10 PM or so. I suppose some matches can be done without me being present all the time if all rules are followed and demos recorded though, but would be nice to know who would do a match tomorrow then.
I think Jose and GreEnmArine could, if not tonight, have a match tomorrow.
Tonight at least Spyro_boy and Diomedes, but I hope more of you guys become available. It may be late evening here, but in US it's not so late yet.
Rough availability plan:
Usually from ca. 13:00 GMT to 23:00 GMT
Except Wednesdays: from ca. 18:00 GMT to 23:00 GMT
Fridays week-ends I can play later
week-ends earlier with prior notification so that I can make sure I'm awake ![]()
Except:
Wednesday Nov 28 not before ca. 20:00 GMT
Fri/Sat Dec 7/8, Fri Dec 14: not at all
Sun Dec 9: possible only later
I am in CST. that is GMT-6.
With that in mind, I am available till midnight tonight (6am GMT)
Tomorrow andmost of next week, roughly 7pm to midnight.
it looks like I will be heading out on a job Friday through next Sunday
If necessary, I may be able to game during the day and work in the evening this week. please ask at least a day in advance, and I should be able to move my schedule around.
Timezone: GMT+1
Availability: All weekend + Evenings during the week.
If you see me on IRC (irc.freenode.net/#gamefest), notify me.
Available Sunday 2pm-4pm, Monday 7pm-8pm, Tuesday 6pm-7pm, Wednesday 5pm-8pm, Thursday 5pm-8pm, Saturday - 1pm-8pm. All times are -5GMT.
My timezone is GMT+8.
Friday and Saturday I could do until 1 or 2 my time (which would be 5 or 6 GMT), Sunday I could only do until midnight, which would be 4pm GMT.
Weekdays (except Fridays) should be the same times as Sunday.
Edit: I'll check later if somebody from my group is available for a bit of shooting and killing.
I'd just like to note one rather important thing. Nexuiz ladder servers don't appear to be running only 1vs1 maps so when playing on those servers and the mode is different than normal 1vs1 deathmatch a map has to be changed with the one with a "dm" prefix. This shouldn't be a big deal since each player chooses a map anyway, but just so it is known, a way to change map is this:
vcall chmap dm_map in console where "map" is the name of the map. For example: vcall chmap dm_toxic would change to a "toxic" map in a deathmatch mode which is on the server set as 1vs1. Also to see a list of available maps just press tab after vcall chmap.
To finally move to the map the other player just needs to accept the vote by pressing F1.
@reptiler: I sent you a personal message, it's about our match in group stage.
my match vs. reptiler took place
@jose: when is the earliest moment you can play today ?
The match free-zombie vs. Rad_Ished took place, Rad_Ished won.
Demos are at http://www.freedomware-gamefest.com/node/46
It appears we didn't completely follow the procedure, I hope it doesn't matter.
I should be able to play within an hour of you confirming on this thread (I'll keep checking back).
Narrow the following time range. I am using your time (I am 13 hours behind).
8 -> 13 Monday (gmt+8) -- this would be the end of Sunday for me.
21 Monday (gmt+8) -> as late as you want Monday or Tuesday early morning.
I can maybe play during part of the time not specified but you have to ask as soon as you can for me to confirm.
Probably I can accommodate a similar range for the next several days should you not be able to play Monday.
@Jose: I am available in IRC for direct communication. Either at irc.freenode.org at #gamefest or at #gamefest.nexuiz at QuakeNet. I will be there from now on for another few hours.
Jose: I'm wondering why you aren't checking back on this topic, as you already answered another thread after my response...
*keeps waiting*
yes, I am ready now. ws practicing.. also, i have a new irc client give me a sec
Today I can't play because I have serious network problems. At the moment I write from my friend. In weekdays I am available from 18.00 to 21.00 UTC.
I'm usually available on:
- Tuesdays from 17:30 to 20:00
- Wednesdays from 15:00 to 22:00
- Thursdays from 11:00 to 20:00
- Fridays from 18:30 to 0:30
- Saturdays from 14:00 to 0:30
- Sundays from 15:00 to 21:45
Hours in GMT.
I've updated the Nexuiz 1vs1 page with match results from sunday. All is fine, but I do have a comment on a match between free-zombie and Rad Ished.
It appears that both maps in that match were played on the same server, one in which there was a noticeable lag disadvantage to free-zombie (who also lost the match). According to the rules free-zombies chosen map would be played on a server where he has bad ping and Rad Ished's chosen map would be played on a server where he has bad ping (basically vice versa). Since this wasn't done, free-zombie has a chance to call for the match to be repeated.
In that case it will be repeated and results will be modified if they change. FZ, reply to this post if you want that.

Now, here are the further proposed match schedules:
plouj - libervisco: Monday (night towards tuesday) 00:15 GMT (plouj's 7:15 PM)
plouj - KIAaze: Tuesday 11:15 PM GMT
Ironwolf - Thunder_PT: Tuesday 8 PM GMT (hard to match these two so trying to find a compromise, Ironwolf agreed to this time even though it's much earlier than he originally specified, if Thunder_PT can do a match at the maximum of his tuesday time it can proceed. I'll probably be there to send them off)
reptiler - Jose: Monday 3:15 PM GMT
These are just proposals for now. Please confirm if you're ready for it. You can also feel free to just meet up at best time when you can do it and do a match. I don't have to be present for you to start if you can start.
Cheers
Well, for me the time for the match with Jose is fine.
By the way, is there a low-grav map in Nexuiz, like Morpheus in UT? I really loved that map...
10:15 gmt-5 / 23:15 gmt+8 is fine with me. Looks like that is in about 9 hours.
Okay then.
Good there's a time-limit. Otherwise we might be playing forever. ![]()
for dr. evil (although it seems he is absent): I am available on weekends at the evenings (7pm to 10 pm, GMT+1)
Available from 7pm-11pm Monday to Friday, Saturday 7pm-1am and Sunday any hour GMT
I am here.. let me log on to irc.. i sent you a private message.
I'll probably be there to send them off)
You got it wrong. When I said I was available from 17:30 to 20:00, I meant I was available to play on that time, not to start playing. That means I must end the game at around 20:00.
Sorry...
Well then it can be earlier if Ironwolf can manage to do even earlier.. It's just about half hour difference.
So, Ironwolf, can you do at least half hour earlier?
Looks like filipecerk and Fliper09 can easily match up any week day between 7 PM and 9 PM GMT.
Also filipecerk should probably be able to match up with mkzelda and kyre in his time frame or at least next sunday.
Has anybody seen Dr Evil? Everybody from my group still has to match with him.
I'll mail him, along with others who didn't show up for Nex and OA.
Cheers
Is there some kind of time limit for the Nex 1v1 Qualification stage anyway ? Initially I thought that the whole (Nex)Tourney would be held on one weekend. Now it's definetely not going to end the next 2 months if this continues this way.
I just say this because my free time will cease to exist after the next weekend (in 10 days) and I actually wanted to play nice matches, and not only qualification games with 200 ping and still ending up with 60 : -2
*a bit frustrated* GreEn
This Thursday evening 18:30 - 23:00, Saturday/Sunday almost anytime.
I don't think the nexuiz 1-1 was ever planned to be held in a weekend.
What I do suggest is that since GreEnmArine is qualified (in practice if not technically) that others that are in a similar situation consider playing out future matches. We can probably define the next round groups now, perhaps leaving a hole here or there. In this way, we can advance some more matches.
An added option would be that where there is doubt (eg, reptiler and dr_Evil), we can take a chance and assume player X (eg, reptiler) will advance. The deal would be that if ultimately that is not the case, then those that played player X (reptiler) in the advanced rounds would be willing to replay player Y (dr_Evil). If things work out though, then these games are out of the way. Best case, we advance so that as few matches as possible remain unplayed. It may be that once a particular qualifier decision is reached (w/ or w/o a match) then we can jump into the finals or we might even then officially know who would have won the tournament.
People should keep in mind that it is not easy to schedule matches with so many continuing with their affairs in different timezones. Hopefully, we can think-outside-the-box and be flexible.
In fact, if people really don't mind, why doesn't everyone just play everyone and later we sort out which matches counted (we would have to make an effort to define the potential meaning of the match before engaging in it). Yes, it's crazy but it might be fun, and it might keep more people in the game.
GreEnmArine, this way we can mail you your prize when the tournament becomes official.
As a note to libervisco (and anyone else really), it's good to be flexible with scheduling issues of some, but then we should continue to be flexible as necessary so as not to penalize others.
*** EDITED: THE FOLLOWING WAS ADDED AFTER INITIAL POSTING ***
Green, I hope you can play out some more matches before you run out of time and can't afford 30 minutes again, but I think most people coming into the tournament understood that this might just take a while to play out. There is a lot that is being designed and tested and we have a group that is scattered world-wide. I made sacrifices to be here and to play unprepared against you because I wanted to move things along. I don't have that much time to prepare since games are not designed into my schedule (though I am already tweaking my schedule for the future). All of these games and even online play was new to me. I could have used more time to prepare before your match and then you wouldn't have been so bored. My point is that I hope you too will be reasonable.
In the future, hopefully we can get a lot more participants so that we can have different levels/divisions/categories, eg, for groups that would be willing to play game after game during a marathon weekend of high-skilled battling, while another group takes a more relaxed path as their needs dictate.
One more thing, people should not feel this gamefest will be the end. If people want to play competitively, surely someone (besides libervisco) will step up to do some organizing for future play (I'd help, as I am interested in continuing to grow the gamefest). Perhaps we can start a season soon that will lead up to a Spring tournament of some kind. It may even overlap this gamefest to some degree. In any case, this tournament and gamefest are not the last chance to win a prize/title. It's OK to want to win, but it's alright to recognize that you can play some bad matches here and there and accept less than first place.
I think the gamefest may recognize as the Universal Winner whomever racks up the most points across all tournaments. There is still much to be decided and new games to be tried by those that want to be tougher in them next time around.

I also hope this gamefest won't run too long. :/
Unfortunately, I might have less time this weekend, but I hope to be available during the evenings at least.
The good news is I probably won't be slowing down the finals. ^^'
My apologies to Fliker09 for not being available last time, altough I was logged in on IRC.
I had left my PC online, but had been away for longer then expected.
I should be available every evening. If not, I'm in Windows playing cod4. (GMT+1)
Weekdays: 4PM to 9PM EST
Weekends: 8AM to 11PM EST (Notify me for before 12PM)
I sent dr_evil a message inviting him for the matches. If he responds soon enough to play with GreEnmArine great, if not we'll probably issue a forfeit.
Good. I hope he shows up.
That we we can at least be sure "the right guy" gets through to the next round, no matter if it's him or me (because I would currently advance if he doesn't show up), depending on how he performs against us three.
But although I would prefer to fight my way through to the next round fair and square, I wouldn't deny to be happy to get to the next stage. ![]()
as I said. My time has started to become very limited just now. I try to come back to this forum and IRC every here and then. But no promises.
Didn't you say this weekend? Oh well.. we might be lucky to get you two together for that one last match before we give you a break while the rest of qualifiers are done.
Sorry everyone.
I wasn't able to take part in this tournament. I will be available this Saturday from 16:00 CET.
Looks like you're going to have a bunch of matches this weekend. You and me, for example have to try killing each other in Nexuiz and OpenArena. But relax, I'm, as far as I've seen, the only one you got to face twice. ![]()
Can you find free-zombie and efus also? free-zombie is on irc but always /away and I have never seen efus.
I will start my IRC client on saturday then
See you around
