North Wales Novice

Hello Nuxified!

I finally started to venture away from Win 98SE on the 2nd/6th of Nov 2006. Since then I have played with Breezy, Dapper and Edgy. I am 44 years old, yet I only got an Internet connection last December!

I now run Ubuntu Feisty 7.04 on which I also have KDE and E17. I have been learning how to install different OS's on different hardware for the last few months, at the same time as getting comfy with one or two forums.

hello

Welcome! Wow GNU/Linux is a big step up from Win98SE!

By change dramatically, do you mean like "machine meltdown"or something equally organic?

Thanks for the welcome....................and the warning! Smiling

Your website

RTFM: Read Too ****in Much?
STFW: Please elaborate.

TMTR: To Much To Read
TFFT: Thank ***k For That!

Nice to see you are having fun with GNU/Linux.

"change dramatically"

By "change dramatically", I mean rewording, adding, removing incorrect thing, and/or completely changing my opinion.

acronymns

RTFM & STFW: Hover your mouse over their text for what they stand for. (The <acronymn> element is underused on the web...)

TMTR & TFFT: Huh? Are you suggesting I add those?

STFW is the less polite

STFW is the less polite version of "google is your friend".

Welcome aboard Elfed!

Welcome aboard Elfed! Smiling

Maybe I should add STFW, TMTR and TFFT to our acronym pop ups (of course, the kindest versions of them)?

Welcome to Nuxified and to

Welcome to Nuxified and to the world of Linux.
I hope you'll be happy with your decision and that you'll have lots of fun with Linux.

Hey sorry for the belated

Hey sorry for the belated welcome! Nice to see more Ubuntu users too on this Fora as well as UK members.
Dependant on how interested you are we have an Ubuntu LoCo team called Ubuntu- UK.
It may help you with your transition to GNU/Linux along with this fora!

Acronyms

Why not?

TMTR: This is an explanation saying "above my level to read" or "I have to sleep before I can have a go at this."

TFFT: This is an expression of relief, not unlike a laxative ( I am quite proud of that one ).

Croeso

Hey dylunio!

Dwi'n dim ond siarad llawer iawn. Dwi'n teithiwr. ( I don't speak very much [Welsh]. I'm a traveller. )

Nice to know there are other Linux users from my Homeland. Any encouragement with Cymraeg would be most welcome! A translation of your sig' to save me looking through the Geiriadur Mawr would be a start. Smiling

Is there any way to shorten my site name, I usually use "ed-j"?

Many thanks! Alt Smile

Welcome

Be my guest! Perhaps you could also add DAB: DROPPED A ******K!

Thanks for the welcome1 Alt Smile

welcome

I feel like I've been away most of my life and I've just returned! Oh, I have been away most of my life?

Well, if it happens that I am not happy with my decision to join Nux', you will find me at www.modfree.org ( My "home" forum ) amongst other places.

Glad to be here. Thanks! Alt Smile

Belated: No proplem!

In a sense, my transition to Linux is complete. I have very simple requirements as a Novice ( notice the capital letter, I am very proud of the fact ). Most of my time has been spent with hardware, installations and FFF. Also, traversing the monumental paranoia of having my first Internet connection: Oooooo eerrr! Shocked

Thanks for the welcome!

they're not used. Some

they're not used. Some acronym have somehow gained wide understanding and are largely documented by tool tips on nuxified.org for people not knowing them in the first place.

Also, TMTR sounds bloody rude and can be expressed nicely in a few words.

Why wouldn't you be happy?

Why wouldn't you be happy? Eye-wink

Nuxified has quite a few guys who know their stuff and not so much Novice users to challenge them. What this means is that whatever question you may have it is very likely someone here will know how to help. Or in other words, we have vacancies for Novice users. Eye-wink

Well said libervisco. Well

Well said libervisco. Well said.
It's actually quite delighting when sometimes somebody pops up with a question. Mostly we discuss ideas here, not so many problems.

My sig reads: "Pround to

My sig reads: "Pround to use Linux and Floss"

Elfed has just left the building...............

.........and reappeared again as edjay! I thought I would be able to change my full name to a user name after registration, so I made a new account. Well, that was a deftly manouvr-ed start (is there a spell checker anywhere?).

Thank you for all the welcomes!!! Smiling Please feel free to go through them again for my new user-name, if you feel so inclined: No hate mail please! (joke, you can send as much as you want).

I should appear again as edjay in a few minutes! Alt Smile

Yes, for example in Firefox/IceWeasel version 2 upwards.

spell-check

Hey zombie!

I'll find it eventually!

Could you please tell me how to contact the staff: I've switched from using my full name to "edjay" but I cannot find out how to switch this account off? Please continue under "North wales Novice 2."

Thanks for the reply! Alt Smile

you look for someone with a

you look for someone with a shiny "M" for moderator of even "A" for admin under their avatar and maybe send them a private message.

In this case, you might just want to do nothing. Or annoy libervisco, as this doesn't look like something that falls under "moderation".

Oh well, yeah I am the "A"

Oh well, yeah I am the "A" guy. Eye-wink

I've switched your old account off and you can continue using edjay. Btw, for others in the future who wish to change their usernames, you can just ask me and I'll do it for you in a bit so you don't have to re-register. Smiling

Cheers.

At first I thought it might

At first I thought it might be a ferret, but now I think it's something else.
Problem is that I only know the german word for it, but if I name it maybe FreeZombie or Luzi know the english word. The german word is Erdmaennchen, though I'm not 100% sure if this is one.
Thanks to Wikipedia I found it, the english word is Meerkat.

Account name

Thanks mate, you're a real Liber! :)-----x

Me

What, you mean you don't like how I look in my winter coat? I'll send you some photo's of the rest of my family if you like? Alt Smile

Me

At first I thought you meant "Erdemenchen" (Earth people) then I thought maybe "Erdekannenchen" ( Earth rabbit ) but I suppose you must mean "MehrKatzen" (more cats) or then perhaps "MeresKatzen" (sea cats) or MeerKats (lake cats). In any event, I look very like my family, so you be careful what you say! >:-| <-------------(serious Moheeeeecan look).
