If we are not to do any

If we are not to do any significant changes to the way forums are colored (I personally think the current color scheme fits quite well in the new design) we're pretty much nearing a "release" of this new theme, right after the remaining obligatory tests and a possible upgrade at least to the latest 4.7.x Drupal if not the full v5.

The theme is much more complete now and some of the mentioned issues have been addressed. The release will be marked by making of the new theme as default, meaning that everyone including guest visitors will then see this new theme.

However the old one will remain available for members to use if they so prefer. All you have to do is select "bluetango" instead of NXFD.

I checked the old theme out a bit for comparison and I gotta say it does feel quite good. The reason why I still consider the new theme to be a significant improvement is that it is simple, features bigger fonts, doesn't use traditional 100% width (for better focus), is more colorful and therefore possibly more eye catching for new users while still sufficiently unintrusive for repeated users. Overall it is closer to the current "Web 2.0" design trends which in fact do have certain advantages over the old style of web design.

Anyway, there is still time for suggestions and critiques on the current state of the theme. If you don't see it, you can switch your theme to "NXFD" in your user profile.

Cheers

Is there a way to make the "Welcome $username" link look like you can click it to get a menu, looking at it this behavior doesn't seem intuitive (i.e clicking some text to get a menu when "menu" is not in the text).

You're right. Gonna come up with something better for that, some sort of an indication that it is a menu.

Thanks

Gotta figure out from where

Gotta figure out from where that output is coming from so I can change it. I looked into the xtracker module briefly, but didn't find anything yet. It probably doesn't specifically say "forum topic", but something else so it's not as straightforward to put &nbsp; in it. In CSS.. it's just a <td>.

some research later....

tr[class] td:first-child, tr[class] td:last-child {
   white-space: nowrap;
}

works ( you'll have to make sure that's only applied at the xtracker... )

Sorry for my ignorance. If that's CSS then it doesn't appear to be working, but something tells me I'm terribly misleading myself.

So for the silly me, could you say what you done to get to there? I suppose you used Firebug to test it.

I used the Web developer

I used the Web developer toolbar's "Edit CSS" feature, and added it (IIRC) to the bottom of content.css.

That was in modules/cck/content.css which is a bit weird because CCK module isn't actually used and yet its CSS file applies.. I guess that's because it is activated (although not used).

Anyway, I created a content.css within modules/xtracker and added that CSS there and that works. Smiling

Thanks! Smiling

I'm amazed to see that it actually doesn't work as I intended (it had worked...), and doesn't work on page 2 at all... I'll probably investigate further, but not now...

Ah you're right about page

Ah you're right about page 2, but it seems fine on page one except that it is now forcing its width on a very low resolution.

I'll check it out..

Thanks. That was probably because I put the usermenu stuff upper in the page so that it can be more accessible for non-javascript non-CSS supporting text browsers. Something below got over it then.

I fixed it with z-index: 1.

I have to say I dislike the penguin feet background, it draws attention to a part of the page (the margins) that deserves absolutely no attention. If you want to put a pattern in that place, use something symmetric.

I'll try to come up with an alternative pattern. Any ideas?

The reason for a pattern in the background is simply to add some more sparkle, making the theme feel even less potentially dull.

Pre-launch?

What if we do a pre-launch of some kind?

We would just do a write up on the idea of a Free Software support site, non-discriminating to the OSs and make a few points to back that up, then mention that Nuxified is undergoing a change to that kind of site as well as a significant redesign.

This way we may achieve two things:

  • Possibly get some feedback on these changes which could positively affect them.
  • Generate a bit of buzz about the new Nuxified.org before it actually comes. Eye

What do you think?

Well that too is still an option, but I think the site could look a bit better if there was a cool pattern behind it. We did aim for a "cool" look after all, not just "nice and usable". Smiling

Well that's true. The question is whether the pattern in background is too much or not? Smiling

But if you two are voting for a clean color background, in the absence of other voters that's what it may be.
