Planet website coming along

Hello,

The GetGNULinux.org planet website is slowly coming up.
Instead of the large, ambitious Drupal-powered website I initially had in mind, I went for a very simple design with Wordpress. The goal is to have a central place to organise the community around GetGNULinux.org, post announcements easily, occasionally also posts in related topics.

Unfortunately because I simply do not have enough time (I initially wanted this planet site up in December...), I had to drop the idea of a multilingual place, with forums available for the various translations of GetGNULinux.org. The website will stay in English only, and will probably stay very simple for a while. Note that Gustavo is building a Spanish planet for ObtengaLinux.org .

There will be no real "official release", instead I expect to quietly and progressively transfer our various pages (community.getgnulinux.org, translation.getgnulinux.org, "help us" page, etc) to the planet and adapt GGL accordingly.
Currently the planet code is relatively poor (mostly because the theme I chose isn't particularly exceptional) and it doesn't display well in IE. I'm working on it as time allows.

Your remarks, criticisms and even participation are welcome.
Olivier.

the term "planet" is misused. Originally, planet is the software PlanetPlanet; but the GetGNULinux "planet" doesn't even serve the same purpose: aggregating members' blogs

:-P

planet != blog.

THAT is a blog.

"planet earth", on the other hand, is something we don't have a more appropriate name for.

It's only a blog at the moment but I hope it'll evolve soon. I'd like to have that site relieve GGL from all the community pages and be a central place for the project. Aggregating blogs is not excluded.
"Planet" is a fitting word IMO; to me it evokes a big round spinning lively thing with stuff revolving around it. :-) That's only what I meant...

Planet site now displays fine under IE 5.5+, thanks to a major re-write in the code. I can't do better than HTML 4.1 transitional there, but it validates.

I'll keep track of changes on GGL there from now on.
