How do install my wireless card [smc smc2532w-b] on ibm thinkpad t20 in ubuntu 6.06? I am having a lot of difficulty.
see http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=28857#4 for how to install your wireless card.
So in the repos, i found hostap, source utilities, kismet and hostapd. What do i do now? I have never compiled the source code and I am unsure where or how to begin.
I think you just need to install hostap and if it doesn't work do the descibed configuration
hostap-source says that a kernel source is required to compile these modules. What does that mean? How do I do it?
ok. Just install hostap-utils and configure as described on http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Installing_Kubuntu_on_a_ThinkPad_A30 (or use that page as inspiration/guide anyway.
I have gotten to where i need to do activation with knetworkmanager and configuring the device however it goes to 28% and then closes. The only thing i missed so far was the changing the name from eth1 to wlan0, and i dont know how to do that.
I am up to this topic/section on the guide "Configure wpa_supplicant" it said permission denied
I want to connect to available wireless networks without having to configure. How do i do this?
do i use kismet?
BTW: I have still be unable to set up the wireless network correctly,
EDIT: I am close to figuring it out.
I believe there is something called "NetworkManager" in ubuntu for this, but I have no experience whatsoever with it,
NetworkManager was the answer. Now how do i add wpa access on it?
