X forwarding

X forwarding

this one has me lost, maybe just not experienced enough with gentoo

it has always worked before (ie other distros)

basically it doesnint fine the display

Earth:~ andy$ ssh -X 192.168.2.6
Password:
Last login: Thu Dec 29 20:29:16 2005 from earth
andy@Pluto ~ $ xclock &
[1] 1760
Error: Can't open display:
andy@Pluto ~ $
[1]+ Exit 1 xclock
andy@Pluto ~ $

does xorg.conf need to be edited or totally working, cause i dont actually run X on the computer, but it does have it
thanks

I don't know much about this particular topic, but you might check that $DISPLAY actually points to where the x server is running

on the client machine?

On the server it should contain something like
localhost:15.0
On the client, check if it is set in the shell you start ssh from.

Looking at the error message you posted, I'd say $DISPLAY is not set on the server. Maybe X forwarding is disabled in the ssh configuration on the server? This could happen after installing a new version of ssh or a fascist sysadmin...
