re: Spanish translation almlmost done

Hi everyone,

Haven't heard of the other two spanish translators, but I think it's time to move from Wiki to HTML.

There may be still some issues with the translation, global verifications of style, spelling, etc.

Anyone here willing to do that revision before moving to HTML?

So, what's the next step Olivier?

I'm impressed (and in fact, a bit taken short ;-) ) by the speed.
Right now I am busy again, but I will work on it from Thursday evening onwards. I think it will take a week to transfer properly to HTML (I will need help for details, probably), so I propose Sat, 21st Oct as a "release" date, just to be safe.

Meanwhile, feel free to polish the text, and add any missing page (I haven't checked everything, but there are a few pages that I never copied on wikis). When I'll start copying the text, I'll watch the wiki changes closely so as to keep the html "up to date".

On Thursday, I hope to set-up a translation mailing-list, so everyone can communicate easily (this forum thread is getting unreadable! Smiling )

Thanks very much,

Olivier.

That's a problem with non-threaded communication; longer and/or more complex discussions are better held on mailing lists or USENET Eye

mailing-list up

I finally set-up the mailing-list for translations.

You can find it here:

http://mailinglist.translation.getgnulinux.org

I will start using it this week to announce changes to the English website, and discuss any issues we might meet, including with the Spanish translation.

Sorry for delay but my computer nearly died recently, that cost me a lot of time.

Simplified Chinese wiki

The Simplified Chinese wiki is up.
Since I cannot read non-west-european characters, I ask Chinese-reading members (Whistler, this might well be only you Smiling ) to please make sure it works. Thanks very much!

Thanks, it's working. I've already translated the main page Smiling

Also, it would be more appropirate to write this instead for the description of Simplified Chinese at http://translations.getgnulinux.org:
简体中文

what is originally there actually means 'simplified characters'.

edit: I think it would also be better to change the default language into "zh-cn" instead of "zh" so that the wiki interface can be in Chinese as well Smiling

transfer of spanish translation is started

Just to let you know that I have started to transfer the Spanish translation and I estimate it should be ready on Saturday as planned.
The tabs and HTML/CSS base is ready and working.

I'll be silent untill Wednesday and will use the new translation mailing-list then to discuss various things that have arisen already.

Cheers!

Olivier.

Hi all.

I've unable to continue helping out in this project because I have a lot of personal things to do in the mean time: I've moved to Spain and works at the university have started as well, so It's been too hard for me to tell you why I've "disappeared"... Actually, I don't have access to the Internet at my new house (temporary).

I didn't have time to notify you of this before leaving Venezuela.

I'll continue working on this project as soon as I can. It's in my to-do list, I promise!

Take care!

PS: If you answer to this post, please take into account that it may take a few days for me to answer.

sorry about that, that message shouldn't be localized here Sticking out tongue

I wasn't sure of how to say that in english...

But it should have been something like this (I think):

"and I hope that everything works out good with college and all that stuff"

now, is this ok?

Greetings.

Thanks for the welcome to Europe and your best wishes!

I'll continue this post in the brand new mailing-list! It seems like I'm going to be the first to post.

See you there.

I've done translating the pages which are originally on wiki.

Just a question: Am I allowed to change the suggested distribution (while I'll keep consistent with that Linux/GNU/Linux thing - although to my experience _writing_ "GNU/Linux" is quite clear of what it is to those who knows little about "Linux")? SuSE requires non-free fonts to display Chinese clearly and Ubuntu is not well-localized... and Fedora Core is much better here.

That's great Whistler! Thanks for your efforts.

I am not really in a position where I wish to impose my decisions on everyone everywhere. It sounds very rightful that you use Fedora instead of Ubuntu, please go forward!

Hopefully with the experience gained with Spanish, further translations will be a lot more efficient.
