[warning for archlinux users!!!] xorg upgrade

The upgrade of xorg is not exactly smooth if you, like someone I know whose name I will not mention, don't know what (easy!) things to do (ie because you don't read the arch news before doing scary upgrades like xorg), see here:

Pay attention to the fact you need to install xf86-video-<something>, for example for my radeon card it's xf86-video-ati .
If you're currently not using ati's own drivers, do not use those (like the wiki document suggests). Use xf86-video-ati, and save yourself a headache. Really.

You'll need to change some font paths in xorg.conf, it's described in the wiki. After that, xorg should work just fine. If it doesn't work, use
Xorg -configure
But in my case it did "just work" :-)

I am passed that already. I have Xorg 7 working for some time already, though I DID screw stuff up temporarily when I was upgrading. Laughing out loud

That wasn't so much of a problem though as I had internet connection and irssi handy to work stuff out with guys from #archlinux channel. Smiling

I had no real problems at all.. Only 'problem' was initially forgetting to install xf86-video-ati after I had everything else upgraded.. but that was fixed in seconds Cool

Admittedly though, I am also member over at Arch's forums that checks the forum and related news daily.
