Ok, so, apart from the internet, what do you people do with your computers, I am looking for some inspiration. Forget adding packages and suchlike, just what do you do?

Onlinebacon, I program from time to time, I surf the internet...oh, you didn't want that, erm, what else? Oh yes, watch and listen to media (CD, .ogg, etc.).

That's easy! Find a good game and play that! Laughing out loud

Seriously, get something like Battle for Wesnoth, Ur-Quan Masters, cube or anything interesting you can find on Happy Penguin.

Of course, for that you initially have to use the net to download it, but then you'd be all set for a good while. Eye

You could also get a few interesting books or even programming tutorials and read/work with that too.

Ultimately, though, it's tough without the net. This will certainly keep you occupied for some time (once you make initial downloads), but at some point you'd probably still need the net (at least to post on nuxified.org Eye ). But I suppose you're not looking to get off the net permanently anyway. Smiling

Cheers
Daniel

Well, neither of the ones I named don't, and they're still loads of fun. Smiling

Nope, I played that offline mostly. You can play against the AI with no problems..

I tried connecting to a server, but my big latency disconnects me quickly, but multiplayer is definitely not a requirement so no, cube is fine without the net.

the site to download the cube AI program (aka "bot"):
http://cubebot.bots-united.com

however because the official binary of Cube uses an incompatiable protocol with the source version, don't expect this modified version will be able to connect to Internet server. (this is actually another reason why I deleted the Cube apart from non-free data files and dependant of OpenGL.)

I write a lot, whether for myself (notes, journal, various short stories and such). Then there is school work and finally Inkscaping and Gimping. :smiling:

Well, I'm fairly pathetic. I write code in my spare time. However, I also do:

* Take family shopping or to the movies.

* Take my kids to their sport games and cheer them on.

* Watch my wife speak at some school function or charity. She's an amazing speaker.

* Go to church with my wife and kids. (Note that I'm having trouble with that, but I do it anyway to please everyone and to remain married.)

* I tried to run for City Administrator (reports to the mayor) of my town, but when I found that any member of City Council could call me up and ask me to drop what I was doing and switch to something else, and not have some consensus on the council -- that's when I decided to bail on the job and withdrew my appeal. (And they were going to hire me, I found out later on. They were just about to call me in for the polygraph test before I bailed.)

* Work on remodeling a bathroom with a whole new wall, or jacking up a part of my house that settled, or putting in fake wanescoating in my dining room, installing pocket doors, etc.

* Help my kid build a skateboard ramp.

* Play blues and folk guitar. Can't sing anymore -- voice is shot. Lately I've been experimenting with open tuning and doing some slide guitar. I'm teaching my young son to play a little too.

well it's a matter of my f*cking NVidia TNT2 card rather than OpenGL because I can't use it at all after updating Linux, including using proprietary driver. And the Utah GLX (a very old free driver for NVidia TNT, TNT2 and GeForce256) tends to freeze when using with Cube.

Hope she doesn't read this. Laughing out loud

But really, you have a pretty colorful offline activities. At least compared to the likes of me who almost don't have offline activities. Laughing out loud
